Leaving A Review

Aug 15, 2011 21:51

Do writers enjoy when people leave actual feed back in a review? Or do they just enjoy the praise of their characters and writing style? Would an author or write be offended if a review wrote a negative comment about their stories but actually tried to leave advice and indicate what about the story they did not like ( Read more... )

I wouldn't say you were wrong, but some people like negative feedback and some people don't. It's generally safer (if, like me, you prefer to avoid conflict) to stick to positive comments unless the author specifically requests concrit, or it's someone you know fairly well.

That being said, you are welcome to leave negative feedback on my stories if you like. :)

Don't worry, even if I criticize a story a bit, I always find things that I like in it.

I think you did it perfectly!

If the author can't handle negative comments, that is that persons problem.

You stuck very nicely to the feedback rules; first give positive comment, then kindly suggest things that could be better.

Pity the author didn't see it that way! It's the author's loss at a chance to make the story better!

Please feel free to make suggestions for improvement on any of my stories, if you feel so inclined ^_^

I don't think you were wrong at all. Whenever I post, I alway have a note asking for feedback if anyone has it, and I personally love con/crit. It helps me improve my writing, which I probably need even more than the praise (which I also love, just sayin' ;D)

I think that anyone who posts something online should expect some sort of critical feedback unless they specifically don't ask for it, and it's kind of arrogant to say, 'I just want you to say it's awesome, nothing else.' isn't it?

I'd say they would be just a BIT conceded to just ask for gushing praise. Wouldn't it just make you want to nit pick at everything wrong? It's like saying, "don't pay attention to the plot hole", it would just make me look for it more.

Well that was just rude of the writer.

You didn't do anything wrong. I personally like those kind of comments. How can you become a better writer if you do not know where your flaws are?

Don't let it get you down hon. Keep commenting and informing. You can have a go at all my fics if you want :)

I think that if your comment was meant in earnest to help them improve their writing, then you were not in the wrong. It's just that that particular writer doesn't care about improving, or doesn't think that they need to improve.

For myself, it would probably irk me if I didn't ask for it, but I would (and have) stop myself and think about it. Eventually I do come to the conclusion that it has merit and use it. Never have I attacked someone who was trying to help my writing.

That being said, you're welcome to leave comments on my stuff, I know I'm not the best and would appreciate any pointers. Especially on endings. I suck at endings.
