"Almost four decades of much milder Soviet rule"!

Even more: all Poles should not be blamed for Dzierzynski and Mezynski, all Georgians - for Dzhugashvili and Beria, and all Jews - for Gelfand (Parvus), Bronstein, and, say, Yagoda. However, to be historically honest, we should not forget about the national backgrounds of the persons actively involved into the events, especially if they played key parts in those.

Some statements by Anatol Lieven look at least doubtful, I discuss them below.

1. About "support President Dmitri Medvedev to galvanize Russian reform and bring about a clear break with the Soviet past..". This looks strange. However, after his talk
(2009 Sept.10) and the "unofficial" letter
(2010 April 10), some people could believe that Medvedev tries to do something to save Russia.
On the other hand, he did not dismount the KGB, did not removed from the government ministers who spend the budget of the country for the pseudo-scientific projects like gravitsapa. Medvedev did not interested to investigate the falsification of history, for example, in the case of the Georgian war: he knows that Russia had lost thousands lives in that war, while the minister Anatoliy Serdyukov recognizes only 67 of them ( ... )
