Congratulations on such a success! Your landscapes are striking. You always do so much with mood and color.
Very interesting interview. A couple of disjointed thoughts:
I feel like, other than their politicized uteruses (and the accompanying perception of women as incubators), women's embodiment is not widely acknowledged. Which is why people especially freak out at women's "gross-out" comedies like Bridesmaids or Obvious Child, in which their bodily functions are addressed frankly. R recently mentioned that when he was a boy, other boys seriously thought that only boys farted. Like they actually believed that girls didn't fart. I guess because we are more encouraged to keep our baser bodily functions to ourselves.
I have read an alternate interpretation of "menstrual huts" and other customs in which menstruating women are excluded -- that maybe they were inventions of women, so they could have time and space to themselves every month. I don't know what is the truth, but I do like that interpretation.
Stunning images. I love them all. Best wishes for the Hazelhurst prize. How exciting. Congrats on being a finalist.
Fill in a 'people's choice' form on m behalf! I can't get to the opening but do you know how long the exhibition is up for? I might be able to get over there at some point.
