Yessss God I don't even know where to start except to say THE FEELS, I HAS THEM.

I keep a count of how many movies or shows have made me cry. Madoka upped that count twice. Once with episode 10 (So how about we become monsters together?.. And turn this world upside down? So that... nothing bad... or sad... would remain.) , and again with episode 12 (I could tell them that countless times).

Both Homura and Madoka basically are willing to sacrifice themselves for an eternity, and it's amazing.

Where the show started being astounding for me was the end of episode... 8, I think, when Kyuubey has his casual line about magical girls growing up to be witches, and I'm like AHHHHHH IT'S IN THE NAME and then again when I realized (ahead of the show telling me) that Kyuubey is a cutsey shortened nickname of the way creepier Incubator.

Yeah, the drama in the show is really gorgeous. :3

I think I fell completely for the show when Kyouko decided she was going to buy into the Magical Girl mystique after all and it was really uplifting and heart-rendingly hilarious. Because of the hope! and the doom!

I screamed "INFORMED" at the screen when Kyubey said he got the girls' consent. u_u Kyubey has some really good lines.

Yes. Kyuubey is a great character, and a great depiction of something totally alien and inhuman in values. He's not evil... but he's sure as Hell not good, no matter how noble a mission he's on.

Sayaka was my favourite, and I too saw Jason parallels.

I prefer to ignore the 'real historical figures as magical girls' thing too, especially that one...

I thought the ending was amazing. It was the perfect balance of happy feels with a touch of melancholy and uncertainty, which fits the tone of the series really well. I was never a huge fan of Madoka herself (which is hardly a fault of the character, she was stuck as a stock type), but she became my favourite person for a few glorious minutes.

AND IT IS A YULETIDE FANDOM.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika | Puella Magi Madoka Magica

Nominated characters: Akemi Homura, Kaname Madoka, Miki Sayaka, Sakura Kyouko, Tomoe Mami

***

- "When you're ready to die for the universe, call me. I'll be waiting." is a gorgeous line. And not just because it's incredibly cruel, whether Kyubey means it to be or not. Because it's also incredibly attractive. I'd sign on that dotted line.I so would not. That is the line that would convince me to NEVER sign with Kyubey, because the words "Faustian bargain" would be emblazoned in my mind ( ... )
