Boysenberry #6. A Soft Place to Land with Hot Fudge
Story : knights & necromancers
Rating : PG
Timeframe : whole canon
Word Count : ~2.4k

My entry for the inappropriate theme songs challenge. Sethan & Kairn have this habit of picking up sappy songs. I blame you guys for that. So they were the obvious choice for this challenge. I feel like it got ( Read more... )

Well, there was a few sweet moments I guess; pleanty of action moments too. I love the camoflage sigil and the fact that Kairn seems to content to let Sethan experiment on him without a clue of what he might be doing. Curious about the changes I spotted from the original canon. Nice piece :)

thanks :)

I swear, Kairn is way too trusting for his own good. And he's become way too involved and aware for canon to stay as it was when I started, but I think I'm still figuring out where things will settle in the end.

I really like this! The song lyrics worked really well actually-if you hadn't stated it was a cracky match-up I might have just bought it without thinking about it too much ;)

The bit with Sethan watching Kairn's house was probably my favorite part. OH, SETHAN. And it seems like Kairn's return to the necromancers was willing in this version? I'm curious about the changes too. AIso so want to know what happened in the section with the crater... anyway, awesome!

thanks :)

I think that was my frustration with it. I started off thinking it would be a bit out there and then it just kind of settled into standard Kairn and Sethan. They have become way too romanticized over the years.

Kairn will still be going back unwillingly, but once he gets there I think he settles in before long. He has a hard time not making himself useful to everyone else and this is Sethan after all, so I don't think it would be too hard to convince him to stay.

The bit with the crater is the destruction of the temple. Still not sure exactly how that goes down, but I guess I'm slowly piecing it together?

My favorite part was the camo and how Kairn just looked at it and settled back to reading.

This worked really well. I'm glad you're writing again, even if it isn't quite clear to you yet. :)

So many interesting bits I want to see more of! Especially the destruction of the temple and all the bits about Karin shifting back and forth from group to group.

Not as slashy as I'd like...but it certainly will do. ^__^

Thanks :)

I got this when you left it but then it got buried in my email under all the storyfriends stuff, so sorry it took me so long.

They're never going to get slashy in canon, Kairn just wouldn't go for it. But thanks to you guys they've gotten an awful lot closer, haven't they?

Somehow, that song worked way too well for Kairn and Sethan and it really shouldn't.

I was a bit confused about Kairn going back and forth between the two groups and is that last section in chronological order? Because if it is, I have some questions.

I'm trying to pick my favorite bit but I can't. I loved the camouflage in the beginning but liked how the sections started getting way less playful and more depressing. Somehow, the last one also really worked for me even if I'm confused about where in canon that's set.

Thanks! :) It's ridiculous how easily these two pick up inappropriately appropriate love songs.

I had to go back and read it because it's rather old now. It is kind of disjointed especially with Kairn going back and forth. It's one of those pieces where you have to have some idea of how that works in canon to fit it in. And yes, it is chronological, the last bit being a year or so after the main canon.
