This got a little off from the prompt, but it's still what led me here, so here goes. One more Apple Pie left (and no clue what to do with it)

“Do you suppose they ever notice?” At the edge of the pit, hands folded over the handle of his shovel, Kairn was on watch duty. Staring at the road half the night was the one task he found he couldn’t object to.

“Notice what?” Sethan’s voice came from below ground.

“You know…that they’re, well, missing.”

“Oh, of course. People are always digging graves back up just to check and make sure the bodies are still in them, aren’t they?”

“Well, when you put it that way, it does sound rather silly.” Of course, that’s when he made the mistake of turning around.

Crouched on the ground, Reida gave a disembodied arm a hearty handshake. “Hello, Uncle Otto, still rotting, are we? Good job. Carry on.”

Kairn shuddered. He tried to turn back to the road, but it was too late to put the sight out of his head. “That’s just disrespectful. Th-that arm used to belong to someone, you know.”

“And now it belongs to me. Oh!” she said, sliding a pair of gold bands off one decomposing finger. “And so do these.”

Sethan poked his head out of the grave to scowl at her. “There will be plenty of time to update your wardrobe when we get home. For now would you stick that arm in the bag and give me a hand with this leg?”

Reida slipped the rings on her thumb and reached for the foot Sethan was lifting out of the hole. Kairn tried to focus on her hand and the pilfered jewelry and ignore the skeletal foot bobbing over the edge of the lip of the open grave. “Are you really going to wear those after you just took them off of a corpse?”

Reida snorted. The leg hit the dirt with a dusty thump. “Of course not,” she said, eyeing the rings again. “I’m going to sell them.”

“How? You can’t take it to anyone in town; you just stole it out of one of their neighbors’ graves!”

“Aldo will buy it for his girl, or else Kinu will,” she said. “Suckers.” Sethan popped back up, another rotting leg slung over his shoulder, to glare at them both. Reida bared a pearly grin and dangled her hand in front of the lolling foot. “Or maybe you want it for your girl?”

Kairn shuddered. “C-can we just get the…the…get her in the sack and get home before someone sees us?”

Sethan spun, angling the leg his way. “Sure, you want to help?”
