Summary: Cyprian's first encounter with Cliff Knight happened before the night he left Daldain.
A customer entered and asked, "What's good for funerals?"
Cyprian looked him over; young, blond, awkward, and, if the clothes were any indication, plenty rich. This wasn't the right time for conning him into buying half the store, however.
"Lilies are traditional," Cyprian said, and pointed him towards the palest, loveliest lilies he offered. The boy frowned, and looked around, clearly finding them unsatisfactory. Cyprian would have been insulted, but the boy stood in front of the purple coneflowers said, quietly, "My parents loved purple."
Several days later, the Knights were buried under a sea of violet.
