A/N: My last Rocky Road I believe! Woot!
I had no idea that trifling bitch Duchess was serious about her time limit and now I stood outside the club clutching my arms and my purse to my body tightly as the time for closing at the Kitty Klub arrived.
Bruce came outside to lock the doors and as his eyes caught me, looked side to side before saying, "Bird? What you doin? You waitin for somebody, baby?"
I smiled softly at the big-hearted bouncer and lied, "Yeah. They should be here soon." Bruce came to stand beside me asking "Well, do you have any family members that can come in case that ride doesn't get here?"
I appreciated his concern as he didn't get his job for nothing and thought about the question.
Family...
The only possibility was the one I didn't want to find out.
Chaison
He still thought I was at a friend's house hanging around.
My heart filled with slight shame as I knew that I had drawn this secret out too long. Maybe this wasn't the job for me. But right now, I had no choice. This was how my money was coming in.
"No. But don't worry Bruce, ok?"
"You sure? I could give you a ride. We just have to pick up a friend from work on the way though."
That just spelled disaster especially where my husband was concerned.
"Oh no. No...really I'm ok."
Ok...but I'm going to give you Rachel's number just in case."
My heart soared as I thought about the petite bartender then beamed. Bruce was one of a kind, truly. "Thank you, sweetie. I'll use if I have to." Bruce nodded and said "Please do, Phoenix and stay underneath the lighted area ok?"
I nodded and after Bruce checked the doors one more time, started walking to his car. "I got to go babe. I'm late! Take care of yourself."
"Bye Bruce!"
My eyes watched as he finally drove out of the parking lot before whimpering and calling Rachel up on my cell phone.
She picked up with a sleepiness to her voice. "Hello?"
I winced. "Hi Rachel. It's Bird."
"Hey! What's up, Sweets? You ok?"
"No. I'm actually still at the club. Duchess left me."
There was a silence and I knew Rachel was putting the pieces together.
"Is Bruce there with you?"
"No he just left."
"Oh shit. Ok, baby. Hang tight ok? Let me get some decent clothes on and I'll come get you. What a bitch! Leaving you there all by yourself at night. I'm going to tell Manuel about this..." as she kept venting in spanish, I shook my head. "No, Rach. It's fine."
"No it's not. Stay in the lighted area baby. There are too many assholes who think they can come up and mess with you. Especially at night."
I heard her zip up her pants and she said breathlessly "I'm on my way!"
The phone hung up and I put my phone back in my purse, sitting against the front door. It was deathly quiet and just as deathly in the darkness surrounding me.
I groaned, eyes darting back and forth searching for anything out of the ordinary. It was a hard feeling and I couldn't wait to see those headlights coming into the parking lot.
This was going to be a long night....
