Strawberry #18. Teacup
rating : PG-13
timeframe : 1260

Tristan stared up, open mouthed, as Lyssa snatched the teacup from his hand. “I wasn’t done with that,” he said, but her eyes were on Rune. Clutching his own cup to his chest, he gave the woman an wide-eyed, plaintive stare.

“Wash your own damn cup,” she said, and she turned and stalked away from the table. Tess gave a snort and Ilya shook her head as he rose to follow her with the cup still in hand.

Lyssa deposited her load into the sink just as Rune reached her side. “What do you think you’re doing?” she said, as both their hands disappeared into the basin.

“Washing my cup,” he answered, grinning. She yanked it from his hands with a grunt, dousing them both. He pulled his hands from the sink and dried them before bringing them to rest on her shoulders.

“Does the man have a death wish?” Tristan asked his companions as Rune began massaging Lyssa’s back. Quiet laughter answered him on all sides.

Lyssa tensed. “What gives you the right?”

“You told me to-”

“I’m not talking about the cup!” Casting him an angry glare, she pulled sharply away. “Do you really think I need your protection?” she said, scrubbing the dishes with much more force than was necessary.

He was quick to return his hands to her shoulders. “You protect me all the time,” he said, his voice barely reaching the onlookers still seated around the table.

“That’s different! You’re not… and I’m…” she sputtered as his lips closed over her neck. “Gods, Rune, I’m trying to yell at you here!”

“I know,” he said, kissing her again.

“Well, you’re making it awfully difficult!”

“I know,” he said with a grin and still another kiss.

“Dammit, Rune!“ She whirled round to face him and Tristan was sure he was in for it now.

Beside him, Ski tried to stifle a laugh and Lyssa turned to glare at them all. There was a scattered clearing of throats and hasty bowing of heads among the group. Lyssa brought her attention back to Rune. The fool was grinning at her. The two stared each other down in awkward silence for a moment before Lyssa grabbed him by the collar with one dripping hand and stormed into the hall with him in tow.

The room erupted in laughter at the distant sound of a slamming door. “What the hell just happened?” Tristan asked.

“They prefer settle these matters in private,” said Farran with a smirk.
