“What?” She shot her sister, and the squirming, crying child in her lap, a scowl.
“She needs to eat.”
“And?”
Ski fixed her with an incredulous stare.
“Oh!” Lyssa clapped a hand to her chest. “Right.” She swept a look about the room, as she rose, to find the same lack of patience on the faces of her mother and her guests.
Ski left her seat, Mara still firmly in hand, and made to usher Lyssa from the room.
“Where do you think you’re going?” said Mother.
“I will, er, keep her company,” said Ski, with a stiff smile.
