A/N: My first fiction post here, yay!

Trudy tossed her blonde hair back into a lazy ponytail, and then headed back towards the Pack House. She had a report on Alex to produce, and, more importantly, it was time for breakfast and Trudy was starving.

She barely made it more than five feet onto the property before Ryan, another enforcer in the Pack, dropped down from the tree that he typically perched in when on-duty. “Hang on a second,” Ryan said. There was power in his voice, even if he tried to hide it with a casual affectation.

Trudy stopped and turned, looking him in the eye. A direct challenge to his authority. He glanced away first, but made it seem as if he were merely staying on-duty, and checking the area for threats. “Alpha wants to see you.”

Dread pooled in Trudy's stomach. Their Alpha rarely made a formal request to see someone, and even less frequently delivered that message to the entire Pack. Normally he would just seek out the were himself, and talk to him or her whenever they appeared. “What about?”

“You know how it is. When it really counts, our Alpha plays his cards close to his chest.” But Ryan's deep voice sounded more like he was just parroting the line they all knew to say.

And Trudy was hungry, cranky, and more than a little nervous. “Fine. Then what do you think it's about?”

“Honestly? Probably about your obsession with that new Fae girl.”

Trudy prickled. So she liked keeping tabs on Alex, and getting to see her without her 'smiling in public' face on. That didn't mean anything. Really, it didn't. Or so Trudy told herself.

“It's not an obsession,” she grumbled, but nodded. She figured it might be about that. “Thanks for passing on the memo."

She would go see the Alpha, she would. But maybe she'd managed to snag a piece of toast along the way. Not only was she hungry, but it would give her something to hide herself behind, if things went poorly. She wouldn't be taken off of Alex's watch in favor of another were, not if she could help it.

Unfortunately, with the Alpha, it wasn't always up to her. She just had to hope that maybe, just maybe, the Alpha was calling her in about something else. Even if she really, sincerely doubted it.
