“Did it work?” said Sham, peering at the hunk of black crystal cradled in Tristan’s outstretched hands.
Tristan frowned. “I suppose that’s the flaw in this plan. There’s no way to test it.”
The two continued to contemplate the stone until Sethan broke the silence. “When Cheva was in the dummy, my magic was compromised.”
“That’s it,” said Sham. “Use your magic.”
Tristan fumbled for a moment for something to focus on. Thinking of Ski, he reached out, through space that was thick and murky, barely brushing her hand before snapping forcefully back.
“Well?”
Tristan nodded. “The rock’s a god.”
