Summary: Russ finally becomes a father.
Notes: Another My Treat. It’s funny. I’ve written a fair amount about the kids now, but almost nothing of them with their parents, which is plainly an oversight on my part. Year 305 and on.

There had been a lot of time in his life when Russell Darcy had resigned himself to the fact Dean would be the closest he came to raising a child. He and Shannon had tacitly agreed to no children as long as they were living such separate lives with such heavy responsibilities. Then she quit and now…

Russ rolled onto his side and wrapped his arm around Shannon’s expanded belly, rubbing it with his thumb. His face split into a grin as the baby kicked, whether in response or not, he didn’t care. He was going to be a father.

There had been serious debate over names. Both had lost their parents years ago, but weren’t sure they wanted their child to share a name, even with someone long dead and naming them after anyone living made no sense either. Russ had to laugh at the number of names they rejected because some opponent of one or the others’ had had it. He’d once liked the name Edward and calling a child Ed or Eddie, but there had been far too many Edwards now.

When the baby came, suddenly it just seemed right to name him after his father.

William.

“You’re what?” Russ sputtered, clutching the four-month-old Will to his chest. The baby stared up at his father, seeming to sense his surprise.

“I’m pregnant,” Shannon said with a wry grin. “I’ve suspected I was for a bit, but I’ve missed two months now.”

“So in seven months we’re going to have another one of these?” He bounced the infant in question.

“Hopefully.”

Russ took two steps back and sank into the nearest chair. “The kids won’t even be a year apart in age!”

Shannon grinned and kissed him firmly. “Should’ve thought about that before you got me pregnant, mister.”

Thankfully, there were no serious complications and Russ had to admit that not wasting time at their age was probably smart. They were both in their early thirties and everyone knew pregnancies got riskier with age. They named this one Rebecca, but Russ suspected, as she squalled her tiny head off, feet and arms waving wildly, they would rarely refer to her as that but call her it quite often.

It was Nate who coined her Bex.

As Russ sat on the bed, letting his eleven-month-old son stare wide-eyed at this small thing his mother held, he couldn’t’ve been happier.

Having two that close in age was not always easy and, at times, Russ wanted to pull his hair out, but the joy he got out of watching them grow made it all worth it. From their earliest toddling moments, Will, Bex and Morgan and Mal’s son, Miles, who had the perhaps unfortunate distinction of falling right between his two in age, were inseparable.

Will was laid back and eager to please. His sister was brash and hot-headed, but somehow they ended up in the same amount of trouble. He even enjoyed them getting in trouble, the gods help him.

That being said, he was glad they stopped at two.
