“What’s she doing?” Kairn asks as Sethan cocks his head to study the withered mass of bone and tissue heaped at the back of the attic.
“It appears she is sleeping,” says Sethan.
“Well, great. Hopefully she stays that way. Now, can you hurry up and copy those forms you came for so we can get out of here?”

“So,” says Kairn, peering at the hole between them, “the sigils are under the floorboards?”
“So it would seem.” Sethan trails a finger along the line exposed by the missing plank.
“And we’re going to rip it up, plank by plank, to get to them?” Kairn looks around the chamber and runs a hand nervously through his hair. “That could take days-”
Sethan smirks and with no more than a wave, sends one and then another and then half a dozen more boards peeling themselves up and dancing away.

Sethan lets the foot he’s holding fall, and it hits the table with a soft, dead thump. “It’s one she asked for.”

“Good,” he says, stiffly. “So, bring it here.”
Reida waggles a finger. “It’s not that simple.”
“You’re not taking Sethan anywhere.”
past the gate where voices flow
He’s waking up to bloody hands again, to another wound he’ll have to mend and another broken seal he’ll have to replace. He can’t hear her just yet, but he knows she’s there, listening.
“You’re only prolonging things,” Sethan says aloud, wincing as he feels out the fresh cut on his arm where the mark used to be.
Until you deliver me my body, I will make do with what I can get of yours.
with your hand you bring them home
Shamino’s gaze settles on the body slumped on the floor among the lines, and he swallows hard. “Is he all right?”
“He’ll be fine in a moment,” Reida snaps. “Just get in your place.”
