I'm sharing with you
some very precious memories and sensations.
Perhaps these songs make me so happy because
I learned to love them when I was 6.
Before being a snob about music.
Before pretenses.
Before understanding what any of the lyrics meant
just simply loving the music

Somewhere embedded in my head
are the memories attached to these songs.

from the airport right before he left, dan called me. i was still in bed, and rubbing my eyes i chatted with him about this and that. cyndi lauper came up and "true colors" got stuck in my head. we talked until he ran out of quarters, and i left for work. i blasted that song in the car that morning and cried thinking of him. anyways, i still get misty when it comes on.

i didn't really listen to music when i was 6, but 80s hits often have that kind of feeling for me.

having miss. lauper playing in my car spurred a conversation with one of the casual-carpoolers i picked up. she remembered reading a music review that said cyndi was gonna be classic and lasting, that her talents were gonna carry her through the decades. she remembered the sentiment at the time was that madonna (who only had one or two albums out) was talentless and due for a quick extinguish.

I don't know about being 6 but I do know that when you were 9 dad lived in the house on the hill in Martinez. Your 12 year old sister was left alone with you and a kick ass stereo. And a collection of cd's. There was a Heart cd in that pile that got a lot of rotation.

I love We Belong. That line, "I've invested too much time to give you up that easy to the doubts that complicate your mind." She sings it so well. Since your posts I've listened to it, like 25 times.

That being said, have you seen The Office? There's this couple on their, Kelly and Ryan, and Ryan hates being with Kelly, and she's all about getting married and having babies with him. Well, one time she sings karaoke, and basically serenades Ryan with "We Belong" ending the chorus "We belong, we belong, we belong togetherryan." Here's a video:

And so basically now every time the chorus finishes I have to add that "Ryan" to the end. It's funny, and the more I do it, the more I want to tell you it.
