Current project: Socks!

Jan 28, 2009 21:32

These socks are decidedly not ugly. Same pattern as my Ugly Socks, and same size needles, since my socks came out baggy for me but perfect (in diameter) for transversely's bigger feet and ankles. I'm knitting the foot a bit longer to fit his enormous feet.

Considering that I've found gloves easier to make than a hat, I've no clue how to take that. :-P

I likey! What size needles are those? They look awfully small.

They're size 2, but the pattern calls for size 1. They are indeed small! I am going to get a pair of size 1s at some point so that I can knit this pattern in the right sizes.

Do you do gauges? You may not need to change sizes. I (and Jessica), without fail, knit with needles two sizes bigger than those called for. (A sure sign of stress, I'm told, if you knit that tightly.)

I knit medium-to-loose stitches, so I usually need to go down a needle size, if anything! I did a gauge swatch for the socks, but I didn't have a measuring tape and I got impatient, so I just knitted mine on the size 2s. It's actually working out well, since I just pull them on over another pair of socks for my walk/bike to work in the morning.

I am trying to get better about doing gauge swatches, but it's one of those things I wish I could just dispense with. (Because I am lazy!)
