Mostly pictures here, because I was out marveling at the loveliness of my lake again... I did not have the energy this weekend to go climb down into a ravine and then back out again. Maybe this weekend. Anyway... my lake had some presents for me that I might not have found if I hadn't gone out to one of my special spots...

I suspect the shells will get eaten by ants and things like that... ants are a marvelous clean-up crew. I don't know if there are birds that would try to eat the baby turtles... I think they are too small for an osprey but we have gulls sometimes, and I suspect herons might try one for a taste, since they're very fond of frogs. Once in the water I'm sure there are lots of fish ready to have one for a snack!
I have no idea what those two pretty shrubs are doing out on the hook... I haven't seen them anywhere else. I'm not even 100% sure what they are.

Hemlocks like the wet like spruces do... they don't tolerate dryness at all.
We have these awful tiny flies that bite... well, we have lots of kinds. Horseflies are HUGE and they will take such a chunk that you'll bleed from it! They were always around the bard. And there are little beasts... people call them three-corner flies because of the marks on the corners of their wings, but they give a nasty little bite too. And of course mosquitoes are out now and have to buzz around and leave itchy bumps...
