By the time Janice's message had come, Ethan had pretty much settled into Ruby City. The lack of a real routine or structure at first had been disconcerting, and he chose to occupy his free time with the aim of studying at the library for now, trying to find any mention of the place's history in it.

He had agreed instantly, and at the arranged time was walking towards The Usual Spot, hoping he wasn't going to be late. Wouldn't do to make a bad impression that way. Janice was probably waiting on him already. He hurried up at the thought.

Entering, he glanced around for her. "Janice?"

"Right here, Ethan." She set down the teapot and moved around the counter to greet him. "I hope you don't mind meeting here. I - " For a moment words failed her and she was tempted to tell him that she'd changed her mind. No, this was something that she needed to do before it was too late. "I don't really know how this works so if this isn't alright, please tell me."

"No, it's fine! It really is." There wasn't an exactly "right" way to do it except to just make the person in question comfortable with answering questions and not pushing too hard if they wanted to quit. He could only work with those that wanted help. "I've been meaning to come by and check this place out anyway, so it's convenient! I'll have to come back when you're open for business."

"Good. We're open most of the time unless there's some sort of crisis going on and even then, I try to keep the place running unless it's too dangerous to go out." She gestured toward the counter. "Would you like something? I made tea but I could get you something else if you'd like."
