People Waiting for Bus
Originalbildtext: Wait or walk. Berlin, Germany: So bad is the transportation problem in Berlin, that the people must either reign themselves to waiting or else walk. Since many of the civilians live in outlying sections of the city, the streets are filled with lines waiting for the buses, which are practically the only form of transportation available. Here, on Potsdamer Strasse people line the street next to wrecked buildings waiting their turn to board buses.

Berliners Gathering Potatoes
Originalbildtext: Berliners queue up for part of their winter potato supply. They are rationed to 400 grams, slightly less than a pound a day, and make them a large part of their diet. The potatoes are usually dumped in the street and people use baby carriages, wagons and other vehicles to carry them away. Although it is late in the evening, the grocer will have no trouble in disposing of the potatoes shown here.

Children Opening Christmas in Berlin
Originalbildtext: Santa Comes Out of the Sky To Berlin Waifs. Berlin, Germany..... it was "Operation Santa Claus" and everything else was but aside for the moment while an airborne Santa brought good tidings and gifts to youngsters. The 3 shown greeted his arrival and the opening of their gifts with mixed emotions. Like kids the world over, some got what they wanted and shouted their joy; others, well, they had a time hiding just a little disappointment. The sky-Santa was Lieutenant John Konop of Astoria, Long Island and he succeeded in his mission of breaking through the fog of blockade misery.
