A game of chess - thank Merlin. Sirius heaves a sigh, but while relief washes over him, his perturbation at his mate doesn't ebb. Remus' words are polite, but he's trying not to sound smug. He's never been a bad winner precisely, but victory does go to his head, and it's always hard to lose to him. Tonks has a strong competitive streak, and Moony's not helping himself by annoying the girl.

I love that - I can completely see Remus being smug about winning, but trying not to be overly obnoxious about it. I'm at work at the moment and it's usually not too busy on a Saturday afternoon in a university library, so I'm working my way through favourite fics, including your entire catalog of R/T stories. (And I just used the word catalog in an everyday context. Clearly I need to go home.) They're definitely lifting my mood, so thank you. :)

So glad you think Remus could have a cocky streak - there's something rather smug about the way he demonstrates Wadiwassi to Harry's DADA class, isn't there? And I don't see how he could be friends with James and Sirius without having a bit of smugness. ;)

I'm flattered you're re-reading my R/T stories. Nice note to wake up to. Glad they brightened your day at work! Saturdays in university libraries are one of the most quiet things in the universe, aren't they?
