“Don’t deny it, look at this creature, how can you possibly find such a weak human attractive?”

“You're kidding, right?”

“No, I'm not.”

“No, really, tell me you're joking.”

“...but I'm not.”

“I am not helping you memorize the lines of that dumb video game.”

Kyuhyun narrowed his eyes. “First of all, it's not dumb; it's actually quite intelligent. Second, I really need to memorize this!”

Eunhyuk sighed, standing from his seat and throwing the magazine he was holding onto the table carelessly. “I don't want to see you again until you've come back from lala land,” Eunhyuk smirked, “come find me when you're speaking human again.”

“Oh, come on Hyung! I was just playing around,” Kyuhyun frowned.

“You play too many games,” Eunhyuk shook his head, “they're getting to you.”

Kyuhyun laughed. “Yeah, yeah, that's what all of you say. Fine, I have to go anyways, Sungmin hyung is waiting for me.”

“Tell Min I said hi,” Eunhyuk smiled, “and that I miss him.”

“I won't,” Kyuhyun grinned as he collected his belongings and headed out the library.

“Brat,” Eunhyuk mumbled, “possessive brat.”

“Woah!”

Eunhyuk stumbled a few steps backwards instinctively, ramming his side into the table, while attempting to avoid the person who almost clashed into him. The person toppled over but regained his balance just before he fell to the ground.

“Crud,” Eunhyuk hissed, rubbing his left ilium.

The expression on Eunhyuk's face spoke quite a few words - similar but not any more attractive than what he had already hounded out - and the boy suddenly felt guilt overcome him.

“Are you okay?” the stranger asked, leaning forward and taking Eunhyuk by the arm to help him stand.

Eunhyuk waved him off, not really feeling capable of standing at the moment. “Yeah, perfectly fine,” he grumbled while continuing his ministrations on his waist.

“I'm really sorry,” the boy apologized again, “I should have been more careful.”

“You should have,” Eunhyuk mindlessly agreed.

When he looked up and found the stranger hanging his head low, abashed of what he had done, Eunhyuk sighed.

“I'm just kidding,” Eunhyuk crinkled his nose, “I'm fine.”

The boy pulled a chair from the table and lowered Eunhyuk into the seat comfortably. “You suck at lying,” he teased, pulling up another chair and sitting beside Eunhyuk. “I'm Donghae,” he introduced.

“Eunhyuk.”

“Do you come here often?” Donghae asked.

“Only when my friends are in the mood to be geeks,” Eunhyuk shrugged. He noticed Donghae didn't have much of a reaction - his expression was actually rather blank - and chuckled. “No, Donghae-ssi, I don't come to the library often.”

Perhaps it was because Eunhyuk's eyes were partially clouded by the tears that ushered from the pain in his waist, but he hadn't realized the way Donghae stared at him since the moment they first met. When he finally - probably by sixth sense - felt like he was being watched, he lifted his gaze to meet with Donghae's.

“Is something wrong?” Eunhyuk asked.

And Donghae wanted to say: yes, a lot of things are wrong.

Instead, Donghae pulled his sleeve over his hand and reached over to dab away at the tears that brimmed Eunhyuk's narrow eyes.

Eunhyuk was quite taken aback by the sudden notion and flinched, stiffening in his spot.

“You sure you'll be alright?” Donghae asked again.

“H-huh?” Eunhyuk stuttered.

Donghae laughed and gestured towards Eunhyuk's waist, where Eunhyuk had been grasping so hardly ever since he crashed into the edge of the table. “Should I take you to a chiropractor or something?”

Eunhyuk shook his head. “I'll be fine,” he replied.

They sat in silence for a few minutes more until Eunhyuk felt the blood rushing back into his legs and the pain in his waist slowly subsiding.

“I have to go,” Eunhyuk bit his bottom lip. “It was nice meeting you... kind of.”

Donghae laughed. “I'm sure we'll meet again soon.”

“Yeah, sure,” Eunhyuk shrugged.

As Eunhyuk shakily stood from his seat and trudged towards the exit, another man slowly made his way to Donghae's side. “Don't tell me that's who you're interested in.”

“He's not,” Donghae shook his head idly, watching Eunhyuk's every step until he was far out of sight.

“Don’t deny it, look at that creature, how can you possibly find such a weak human attractive?”

Donghae glanced up at his friend with a subtle glare, an almost threatening one. “What makes creatures like us any more attractive than humans?”

“Donghae..” his friend whispered with a long face, “you know it's impossible for beings like us to mingle with humans. We'd crush them too easily.”

There was a low laugh followed by a weak smile from Donghae before he lowered his eyes to his hands, the hands which touched Eunhyuk for such a painfully brief moment, and he found himself missing the stranger already.

“He was able to dodge me, he's the only one who's been able to do so all these years. Maybe, just maybe, that's a sign.”

His friend shook his head, reaching out and patting Donghae on the crown of his head softly. “You're bringing trouble upon yourself. You just met him, Donghae, you don't even know him.”

Donghae stretched his arms in front of himself with a childish grin. “Well then, it's time to start getting to know him, isn't it?”
