I love some varieties of fictional Patrick Kane. The real thing, not so much. I agree with pretty much everything in meiface's post on the subject (and her conversation with diora1 in the comments). Part of the issue is definitely that it's hard to separate individuals from cultures - Patrick Kane is both part of the problem and a symptom of the problem (or problems - I've seen speculation that it's a combination of entitled athlete culture and taking teenagers away from their parents for hockey that leads to this sort of thing). I think I'm probably guilty of being one of the fangirls people complain about who were new to hockey when he was on good behavior, so I don't know that I really had a sense of what variety of jackass he was. Getting so drunk you pass out in a bar: okay (well, I'll worry about your liver and mental health, but whatever). Misogyny/sexism/not respecting women as people: not okay. (Also, I spend so much time in progressive spaces in my personal life that I kind of forget that the rest of the world is not like that ( ... )

I read that actual article and laughed during it because it really did sound like the set-up for a soap opera type drama where manager splits up duo after they jilt him and so he tries to sabotage their carreers and romance, then they all struggle by themselves then have a glorious get together and jilted manager is left to see the error of his ways and to be sad all by his lonesome...
