Fannish Things: A Small Mishmash

Attitude Adjustment

I've been feeling very Bah, humbug!/No one cares so why bother? about fandom recently, and then yesterday I got an email with my extras for my bandgirlsbang story. They're amazing. I have made pleased gasping noises about them more than once. People took my story and made these incredible things for it, and I'm all full of joy again. I can' ( Read more... )

Sweets! I totally request a TV/Hulu watching date with you. Whether Grey's Anatomy or anything that tweaks your interest. That is my idea of a good time (and I need to stop just hanging out at my house all weekend and being a pathetic shut in, so I'd like to be a shut in at your house and watch TV, but do it with a friend, so it's totally a valid social activity if you know what I mean!)

Having boldly invited myself over to your place, I will now note that my very favorite way to find fic is through recs--especially in fandoms where I only occassionally visit.

Hee! I have this plan to buy a new TV that I can hook up to my computer since I only watch TV through my computer anyway. (And also my DVD player is broken, so DVDs have to go through the computer too.) Maybe the promise of a fangirl Hulu-watching date will make me go do it sooner. (I was almost decided on just buying one we saw at Costco and then I had to go and mention it at Thanksgiving, and now I will feel forever guilty if I don't also go looking at the local place where my cousin's partner works.)

Oh, good. You will be my excuse to finally finish my Star Trek reboot recs post.

I watched the 1st season of the Nine Lives of Chloe King. I watched it in one day in two sittings. I described it to someone else, finished the brief description and said "I realize this sounds like crap and it probably is but I love it!". And I agree the plot doesn't progress super well, but the girl and her Mom and friends are so charming (and in the case of the love interests ridiculous) that I can't help but want to watch.
It's funny, but there was something that bothered me immensely about the show though, Chloe turns sixteen and is interested in boys and her Mom is cool with that, all well and good. Chloe is 16 and brings home a college boy and Mom is all like "go, have fun!" he is a minimum of 3 years older than her quite possibly more and Mom doesn't even raise an eyebrow. It was really, really buggng me, making him creepy in my head. So I mentally just changed her age, I'm apparently ok with a 17 year old dating a nineteen year old but 16 is where my brain draws the line...

Exactly! It's all the other charming stuff that makes it worth watching. ♥ I love that we're still on the same wavelength about what we like.

Ha! We all have our lines, I suppose. Chloe developing her powers at sixteen is so arbitrary that there's no reason it couldn't be seventeen instead.

ABC is really turning out some fun shows now, aren't they? I liked Chloe King because there was so much fun in it. Having superpowers can be fun! Girls can have fun! Why is this such a difficult concept for people?

As for recs, I absolutely enjoy recs if you post them, I just never know what to comment. I'd offer recs in return, but I can't really think of anything Star Trek that hasn't been out there forever.

People care!

I love them! Other ABC Family shows I love/have loved: Greek, Make It Or Break It, and 10 Things I Hate About You.

Chloe's show is fun! All that running about and the delight of her friends. There should be more of that kind of thing on TV.

I will definitely post some recs then. (I have a whole Star Trek post started.) I will take older recs (assuming you're talking about reboot and not TOS) - I had just started reading it when delicious became unuseful, so I've only been reading at AO3, and I'm sure there are things I have missed.

I also appreciate that you caught the "pay attention to me!" subtext of this post. ♥
