Chocolate chip cookies made without baking soda taste more like brown sugar than their properly made counterparts. The sad thing is not that I know this. The sad thing is that this is not the first time I've forgotten the baking soda. I suspect this is the real reason the recipe tells you to mix the flour and baking soda and set it aside at the ( Read more... )

Filling: garlic, onion, bell pepper, zucchini, all sauteed with some spices (whatever seems likely out of the spice cabinet; this is where I investigated the pepper grinder and injured myself); black beans, corn, and cheese.

I'm making them for a potluck on Friday. I'm trying to decide if I should bake them and freeze them, or stick them in the freezer unbaked and then bake them just before the potluck (we do have an oven at work).

The smoke made me really, really not want to come back from Chicago.

Is Hulu carrying the second season of Burn Notice? I taped the first episode since I was out of town and my parents have cable, but I have this vague feeling that you don't have a VCR either--is that correct?

I was in Orange County for a wedding, and we all joked about how the air quality was better there!

Hulu does have the second season. I have a VCR, but no cable, so your instinct that I watched it online was a good one.

So it was an Eastern feed! That's why when we tried to watch Venture Bros. at 11:30 p.m. it was Family Guy, and we promptly fell asleep...

It was actually the Holiday Inn Capitol Plaza in Sacramento that had the Eastern feed. I suppose the Embassy Suites might have had an Eastern feed too, but I wouldn't have noticed because I was mostly watching during the day when I would always expect there to be L&O on no matter what feed was showing; whereas I was in Sacramento for work and could only watch in the evenings and used my turn with the support staff traveling laptop to compare the posted schedule to what was actually on TV.

You're really showing your geek credentials if what you were doing on your wedding night was trying to watch Venture Bros.
