Gorgeous. Brilliant. I would type all the lovely adjectives if I could. There is this wonderful juxtaposition between the reality and horror of war, and comfort that Sirius and Remus take in each other (James and Lily too). And it feels so real and right.
And adore the language here and the rhythm of the words. It makes the environment stand out and emotions. I'm going to go reread it again and again.
Beautiful.

And the horror of war, of death and grief and the whole traumatic nightmare, unflinchingly laid out - while at the same time this new thing between them reveals itself to be something deeper and wonderful and true. Must admit that hope in the face of adversity is my favourite sort of story - and absolutely loved this one.

omg. i love this!! thank you. you definitely did include like, all my favorite things!
your writing is beautiful and at once very tight and minimal and very decorative. i love the moments that you chose to decorate, and the others you chose to leave very sparse. it's lovely, and very considered; i can feel your voice. i'm totally obsessed with "the sky a black hollow filled by stars." and, wow, "everything winnowed out of you but need" (amazing!!!!!)
my favorite kind of first war fic with a tiny bit of hope amidst everything. thank you so much for eschewing your holiday/wintery vibes for me :) it's massively successful in my opinion!

On a side note, thank you for getting me into "Under Your Skin." I adore that song now.

I particularly loved this:
The obituaries began to spread onto two full pages of the Prophet, Order members and Death Eaters indistinguishable in the same black ink.
What a perfect image of the entire war, how two completely dichotomous sides are still made of up people that aren't that intrinsically different besides their thoughts on one large concept.
And this:
They went to bed near dawn and woke up adults, the path of their lives clear and neatly drawn.
I love that image of James and Lily.
I'd keep going, but I'd have to keep quoting the whole thing at you. This is wonderful.
