Title: The Arc of History
Rating: PG
Warnings: Sweater vests, politics
Genre: Romance
Notes: On occasion, I enjoy imagining how Remus and Sirius's relationship might have fit into the trajectory of the gay rights movement. When Dylan's archetypal protest song showed up in the list of prompts, I pounced. I knew I would draw the boys involved in some sort of political demonstration; at first, I assumed they would be protesting/celebrating a specific event. So, I researched the British gay rights movement in the 1970s, and found a few important developments that I could translate from the Muggle to the wizarding world (as Rowling likes to do with the political history of the Harry Potter universe). And then, on August 4, California's Proposition 8 was overturned. The next few days were jubilant. When I returned to my drawing, I wanted it to reflect the triumph of that week. So, I went for a broader message than I had originally intended: it's applicable to whatever fights Remus and Sirius might have fought in their days, as well as the ones we fight in ours.
