Prompt Time!

If music is what life sounds like, we ask you to use that music to inspire and create. The Marauders may or may not have listened to everything listed here, but such music was surely present in the cultural fabric of their lives. (This is not to say that Sirius didn’t dig soul, folk, rock, and musical theatre all on the same day, mind you.)

What follows is a large, but hardly comprehensive prompt list that attempts to encompass various styles and genres of the music of the Marauders’ Era. We tried to incorporate everything from jazz to punk to disco to classical, but it is virtually impossible to include everything. People are inspired by a variety of sources, so there are lyric-based prompts, album titles, pictures/visuals, quotes about music, and even audio clips. Hopefully, at least one of these will catch your attention, and there should be enough choices to both inspire and allow for variety.

Please take your time and peruse the list carefully. You have until 11:59PM on Wednesday, June 23rd to decide, so please read, ponder, listen, and enjoy. Again, this is NOT about song fics and you don’t even need to know the source of the prompt you choose - just find something that speaks to you! However, if you are one of those people who will absolutely die if you don’t know the source, please hover your mouse over each prompt and you’ll see the artist, song title, album and year. ***

When you have decided upon your prompt, please respond to this post with the following information. Please see a mod if there are any issues, and, as usual, all comments will be screened:

PROMPTS

Lyrics

1)
Like a bird on the wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free

2)
Before you slip into unconsciousness
I'd like to have another kiss
Another flashing chance at bliss
Another kiss, another kiss

3)
When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way

4)
Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away

5)
"Relax," said the night man,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check-out any time you like,
But you can never leave!"

6)
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year.

7)
Gimme, gimme, gimme, a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase these shadows away

8)
London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared - and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls

9)
'Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under pressure

10)
I am just living to be lying by your side
But I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road

11)
Oh you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh I would still be on my feet

12)
You taught me how to love,
What its of, what its of.
You never said too much,
but still you showed the way,
and I knew from watching you
Nobody else could ever know
the part of me that can't let go

13)
Take me now baby here as I am
Pull me close, try and understand
Desire is hunger is the fire I breathe
Love is a banquet on which we feed

14)
Lying in the heat of the night like prisoners all our lives
I get shivers down my spine and all
I wanna do is hold you tight

15)
Do you remember me, I don't remember you
Do you still love me, you know I think you do
I have been gone, and some prison warden knows my scream
I'm just trying to fight my way out of this dream

16)
Well, you're just like a great, strong brother to me,
And I know that your love is true,
And you never talk dirty behind my back;
I know that there's some that do.

So please, won't you please, won't you bear it in mind:
Love is a lesson to learn in our time.
Please, won't you please, bear it in mind for me.

17)
Brothers here I stand
Spread my wings and take command
The sky he justly planned
The boy become a man

After all this time
I tell myself that I'm
Not just wasting time
Oh you know I'm not that way inclined

18)
And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer
Let it be...

...And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me,
shine until tomorrow,
Let it be...

19)
The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'

20)
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel

It's a new dawn
It's a new day
It's a new life
For me
And I'm feeling good

21)
Sunshine, daydream, walking in the tall trees,
going where the wind goes
Blooming like a red rose, breathing more freely,
Ride our singin', I'll walk you in the morning sunshine
Sunshine, daydream. Sunshine, daydream.
Walking in the sunshine.

22)
You held my hand
When it was cold
When I was lost
You took me home
You gave me hope
When I was at the end
And turned my lies
Back into truth again
You even called me friend

23)
Oh, take this longing from my tongue
Whatever useless things these hands have done
Let me see your beauty broken down
Like you would do for one you love

24)
Moonrise, thoughtful eyes
Staring back at me from the window beside
No fright or hindsight
Leaving behind that empty feeling inside

25)
Every day a little death
In the parlor, in the bed
In the curtains, in the silver
In the buttons, in the bread
Every day a little sting
In the heart and in the head
Every move and every breath
And you hardly feel a thing
Brings a perfect little death

26)
Somewhere there's music
how faint the tune!
Somewhere there's heaven
How high the moon!
There is no moon above
When love is far away too
Till it comes true that you love me
As I love you

27)
Do you remember the 21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away

28)
I need you, by me,
beside me, to guide me,
to hold me, to scold me,
'cause when I'm bad
I'm so, so bad
