Jack has recently (as in, since Sunday) become obsessed with The Lady and the Tramp. He likes the white dog - Peg. Peg sings "He's a Tramp". Jack asked me to sing it for him at bed time. So I sang...

We're playing Incredibles (with Jack dressed in his Incredibles pjs) and Max is Mr. Incredible. We went to my office to fight the Omni Droid. Mr. Incredible says, "Where is something I can punch?"

Without missing a beat, Jack goes to the craft table, picks up my dragonfly shape maker and says, "Here's a punch!"

My friend Jamie introduced me to Infinite Joy, a revue of songs by William Finn (Falsettos, among others).

I've been in a showtunes mood the last few days.

I watched 0% of anything inauguration related today. We got rid of TV. I didn't feel like making my way through the maze of analysis in trying to find one place where I could simply watch the speech. I feel bad, because when Jack asks me where I was when Obama became President, I'm going to have to say "sleeping".

 I'm posting this part here as a reminder to myself: Today (Saturday) was a WONDERFUL Jack day!

Also, Jack's birthday is this weekend. I've had people ask me what to buy him. Is there a tactful way to say that we like secondhand gifts so don't feel like you have to go out and buy something new and expensive?

Tonight, Jack called me from his bed, “Mama” (he hardly ever calls me “Mama” anymore, usually “Mommy” and sometimes “Mom”, but I digress).

I went in. He asked me to get him his pillow, which had fallen on the ground. He then asked me to get “Skippyjon Jones’s dog.”

Last night, we were able to put Jack down for bed (asleep) by 8pm. Tonight, we tried to put him down at 8:30. Two and one half hours later, he's still awake. Max has the habit of staying in his room until Jack is asleep or almost asleep. I refuse to do that. He's been sleeping by himself since he was born, after all.
