I have to agree, for the most part. I don't think Rey is a dull character in the first half though. While very confident she had weaknesses in the first half. She was struggling to fend for herself and she was clearly unable to stand up to the guy exploiting her by under-paying her for her salvaged items. When she thinks Finn is part of the Resistance there's a certain giddiness to her, since while she didn't automatically give him respect she did respect the Resistance movement she believed he worked for. She's tough and stoic, but she has heard stories about the Rebels fighting the Empire and so she's suddenly eager to make a good impression people she thinks are linked to the Rebellion or the Resistance

I have to agree with your assessment of Finn. He was a better written character.
