After a bit of a break due to the holidays... the discussion question(s) this week is regarding one of our featured games - thedressingroom and characterisation.

If your characters participate in thedressingroom - Do you keep your characters ic or allow them more freedom? Is it easier or more challenging to stay ic around characters from other fandoms? Do you find that there ( Read more... )

Me/TDR = otp. I bring about four characters in there, and more often than not have a grand ol' time doing it. Let's see, those questions.

1. I generally try to keep my characters as IC as possible. What's the fun, if not? Granted, I also enjoy a fair bit of crack when I can find it. I guess it depends on the character - with Dean I probably wouldn't stray into silliness, but with Ron I might.

2. Around other fandoms? I think it's easier, myself. Maybe that's just because it's something new and completely different for the character, so it's all just in the reaction. I love the random fandom characters, like Captain Jack and the unicorns, omg. Let's go to Candy Mountain, Chaaarlie!! :D

3. As to the characterisations, I think that's all about the character. Some characters just have a set sort of personality, it seems, whereas with others people are taking on different interpretations. But that's the fun in everyone coming together, yeah?

...Alright, yeah, went on far too much. Sorry about that! :D

My characters appear every once in a while, some more than others. I have a tendency to keep them as close to being in character as possible, which can be challenging when you're replying to something and you know what you would say, and have to think about what the character would say.

I find that for some characters, the characterisation generally stays the same, including for some minor characters. The versions of Morag I've seen all have something of a "say whatever I want" attitude. Which is cool.

I keep them as IC as possible, and it's no more difficult to keep them IC around characters from other fandoms as it is with characters of the same fandom. Would be hard to play in places like sages_of_chaos and dear_multiverse, or my multi-fandom RPs, otherwise.

I keep all of my characters IC, and I don't find it more or less difficult to stay IC around other fandom characters.

I find there's big differences in characters across different games. Some adhere mostly to canon, and some are hugely original or fanon takes on characters, and some are inbetween. I definitely see that with the characters I play.

I've played both of my Siriuses (Sirii?), olddognewtrick and _doggiestyle in the dressing room, and I don't find it hard to keep them in character at all. While they're the same character, they're different in a lot of ways, because they've had different experiences. I just let them react to things however is natural, and go from there.

I find that most of the Siriuses I've found have the same fundamental similarities, but they've each been shaped by what they've experienced in their own universes, so they're each a little different, too. I'd expect that with a character that's got a pretty solid canon basis. I'd expect a lot more variance in a side character, like Blaise, Hannah, Susan, etc.
