Might as well get the first prompt posted. I figured that this question would be good to start off with. It was suggested by ivymutant.

Oh, wow. Well...I don't remember how long ago it was. Several years, I know that. My best friend kept talking about Amie's World, a messageboard-based RPG she played on, and I decided to join. It was a very simple fantasy game, and it was fun for awhile, but then they shut down the messageboards we used, and by the time the mod found somewhere else to host, most of the fun original players (including my friend) had lost interest and a bunch of new powerplayers showed up. It was not fun.

But...yeah. Messageboard RPGs were all I knew until I discovered LJ.

I've been roleplaying for, oh, five or six years now? I started on a site called the Barrowdowns, which is mostly for discussion of Tolkien's works, but has a roleplay section. It was very structured and very strict, as far as rules went, so it was a good place to be introduced to the idea.

I never used chatspeak, good for me. (I did, however, have some monstrous Sues when I started out. *shudders in memory*)

I tried it because I was curious, got hooked, and went looking for more places to play. Fortunately, I ended up finding a few very good players, with whom I've been playing ever since.

Since about halfway through seventh grade (I'm a freshman in college now--you do the math!). I followed a friend onto neopets, where we played some really painfully sue-ish LOTR characters in asterisk style. And from that, the slow road (hopefully) upward. Interestingly enough, my first ever human character still survives and is played to this very day, though I can certainly hope that he's of somewhat better quality than back then (he used to be tall, dark, and handsome. Now he's five feet tall and crippled.)

I was playing since I was roughly twelve in the forums of Squarespirit.net (now dead) I started with combat roleplaying and stuck with the same sue-ish character for years before I decided it was childish and dropped everything. Roleplaying actually got me to start writing, which stopped me from RPing for awhile.

I did not start formally roleplaying again until I was fourteen in a sudden urge to just start again, though now I'm seriously daunted by multi-player and prefer doing one on one.

Eight years, I had been playing games such as warhammer at a club, but my friends needed someone else for their game and so forced me to join :)
