Aoyagi Ritsuka // Loveless anonymous May 15 2009, 04:32:11 UTC
reCAPTCHA: for mother

Ignoring the creepily perfect captcha there, this mildly obvious anon would love some advice on how to play this rather interesting twelve-year-old.

Regardless of what Kouga Yun draws in her artbooks, remember he is not a little manwhore. :| Not that you would think of him that way, but.

What I did when I started playing him was to go through the manga and catalog his reactions. It can be really time consuming, but given how complex his psychology is, and how it changes over the course of the manga, I think it's really important. With Ritsuka you have to get the right balance of naive child and intelligent young man who acts older than he is. Ritsuka has a lot of abandonment issues, and he has very particular triggers that will try to break his little heart. And don't forget that confusion can be okay. Ritsuka is confused about his thoughts and feelings, and that's okay as a player, but don't mistake that for confusion as to Ritsuka's personality itself. I recommend making lists of things: what Ritsuka fears, what he likes, what makes him angry, what makes him happy, how he relates to the other characters. It's a lot of work, but it will make him that much more rewarding to play ( ... )

Oh hello anon.

ReCAPTCHA: Good Shuck. Erm.

Okay, haven't read the recent Loveless volumes, to be honest. But what I remember is that he's extremely mature for a twelve year old, and has no problems taking care of himself. He has baggage - LOTS of it - but he hides it well so as not to appear weak. He takes a long time to open up to people, but it's up to you as to whether this is because he's callous of because he doesn't want to get hurt. I'd go with the second, but I'm a sucker for that kind of thing. Also, once he does open up to somebody, they really matter to him, and he can be very protective. I'm thinking of the girls he chewed out for bullying... The pigtailed girl. Damn, it has been a long time. Brb, rereading.

He's very driven, which comes across as weird in a kid. When he wants something and is sure he wants it; taking pictures, beating another team, and especially finding Soubi's killer, he will keep going after it, no matter what he has to do. He's even willing to go against his mother, something he'd normally never do ( ... )

Any advice on schoolage-Master?

Re: Koschei || Doctor Who rude_not_ginger June 6 2009, 18:56:35 UTC
He's the Master. Don't forget that, above all things. He's got to have a vicious, self-serving side. At the same time, he's also the Doctor's best friend. They have to have a dueling, competitive relationship. There can't be sunshine and roses (even if you want it to be a sexual relationship), because that isn't how the Master and the Doctor work.

Also, I'd highly recommend you listen to the Seventh Doctor audio "Master" before picking him up. I was recc'd it by a brilliant Koschei prior to picking up Theta Sigma and it greatly improved my skills just for Theta.

Don't make him an angel or a devil - make him a believable, if alien, child. Don't make the drums the centre of all of his characterisation, if you use them. Take what you know about Time Lord society, and consider how it shapes him, and how and why he differs from the norm ( ... )

In addition to general advice, specific books he plays a major role in would be helpful. I've read a few but Discworld is a big series!

He plays a pretty big role in Jingo, and really, most of the Vimes books.

Jingo for sure, Making Money and Going Postal absolutely, and Night Watch for some good Vetinari back story.

Although, fair warning, he could be very hard to play in a more "Serious" setting. He knows everything, is always right, manipulates/bullies everybody into doing exactly what he wants, etc. etc. Hard to walk the IC line and still have enough wiggle room to let other characters have their plots.

...But if you're applying him at, say, capeandcowl, then anon, I love you and we can have GRAND PLOTS. Just sayin'.

[OP here]

It might be a little easier if he's not on the Disc anymore, because he won't have all the information; but yeah, I can see the problems there.

And hah, I'll think about it. >> I wouldn't want to do it until I've read more of his books (I've only read about three with him in it), but we'll see. I like grand plots.

I'm not really having too much trouble with her, but...

Any ideas on stuff I can do besides 'baww I'm useless in a non heart-shard-collecting situation' or 'help, help, I'm being kidnapped'?

Meet people. She had her two main friends, but she's a social gal, and depending on her Tutu-magic-accessing powers maybe have her help out people by dancing with them.

Bonus points if she meets people by klutzing into them,

Unfortunately Duck doesn't have her powers in this particular RP, but still thanks for the advice.

Also! Just thought of it, maybe have her start admiring some people, cause she does that a lot. 'Oh, wow, I wish I could draw that well!', 'Rue's such a great dancer, she and Mytho are really great together', 'Your flowers are so pretty!' She does that quite a bit. And keep in mind the making lots of friends everywhere.

IDK, I hope this is slightly helpful. ^^' Good luck!
