Beginning today, the human forces, for the most part, withdraw from Jhelbor. What's left is mostly a skeleton crew, civilians who aren't under the command of the military. Demons, in contrast, seem perfectly fine with populating their area of the city. The Elves have already mostly left ( Read more... )

Demyx wasn't entirely sure how the whole 'worldwalker city' thing was going to work. But hey, everyone else seemed really excited about it so he was sure someone had a plan. (Actually, he wasn't sure, but he certainly didn't have one so he was hoping someone else did.) The humans were leaving, he saw while making his walk with his lute, and most the elves, though the demons were still there. Which was ok, the demons seemed pretty cool with them.

He didn't know what was up with the goblins, and doesn't really think he should ask.

Demyx headed towards the center of the city to play for a little while, when he saw more humans there. Or, a human. He didn't think he knew this one. Still, he smiled and waved in a friendly fashion at her.

All right. Hair. Wow. Tori smiled and waved back. "Hello." She knew that hair. It had been in a very simplistic packet of drawings. "You must be Demyx. It's nice to meet you." Odd. He could be human. He looked so much like them.

"Yea, that's me." Visibly a little confused, Demyx asked, "How'd you know? Have we met before? I'm sorry, I don't remember your name..." He really didn't think they'd met before (and his memory wasn't quite that bad), but she did know his name. Maybe she'd gotten it from someone else, but why?

"We haven't met, no. I'm Tori of Landing." She dropped into a neat curtsy, not low enough to be deferential, but polite and friendly. "I heard all about you before I came here."

As Penny watches, a pair of goblins surface, dragging baskets with them. Both are dumped out on bare rock, as the goblins take a few fresh breaths of air.

Aspen crouches, and pieces through muddy objects. Royal steps over her, watching. Whatever she finds seems to satisfy her; she and Royal exchange a few words.

Moments later, the goblins dive back down again, and Aspen and Royal return to their uneasy silence.

"Ah, Penny," said Royal. "No, we're sending out divers to scour the lake bottom for--"

"We're searching for items lost during the battle," interrupted Aspen, shortly. "Some of it may be salvageable. And who are you?"

She asked Penny, not Royal, even though Royal clearly knew the answer.

Temeraire was out for a flight when he spotted the new arrival, and as he had not interacted with many elves before, he thought that now might be as good a time to go introduce himself.

He landed as close to the embassy as was manageable and carefully made his way a bit closer, watching things being unloaded and staring interestedly at everyone. He did not bother calling out, since he was hardly likely to have gone unnoticed.

Aihlen turned, his cloak whipping out behind him, in the breeze. The dragon; oh, he's wanted to meet the dragon, ever since he heard of him. There hadn't been dragons in this world in his lifetime, but they'd always been creatures of deep, deep fascination for him.

He studied the surrounding buildings, the stalls nearby. And then, moving with a fluidity in incredible contrast to his casual posture, he leaped -- to a cart, a stall, up a drainpipe to a balcony, across an alley, a trellis, then onto the rooftop nearest to the dragon. On the dragon's level.

It was all accomplished quick as you please, smooth and easy, in a matter of seconds.

"You're Temeraire, I presume," he greeted, stepping to the edge of the building.

Temeraire was impressed. He did not think even Tharkay could have done that. He was also surprised at being addressing by name, but then it was not as if there were any other dragons he could possibly be confused with. It was certainly a nice change of place from, "Please, don't eat me."

"Why, yes. Whom do I have the pleasure of addressing?" he said.

"My name is Aihlenal," said Aihlen, "but there's no need to stand on formality. I'm Aihlen, the Elf ambassador, I suppose, to the worldwalkers."

He gave a short bow, of respect, hands clasped behind his back.

Touya had been spending the last couple of hours just walking the city streets It felt emptier now with people leaving the city. The only ones he'd really noticed leaving were humans though, so he really couldn't guess why they had. It made him wonder if maybe other races would leave too.

Eventually he found himself in the vicity of the Elf embassy without realizing it. He'd have continued on, but a faint new scent in the area caught his attention. Jhelbor sort of had it's own smell to him, as did most places and races, and people who had been staying there had a little of it...but this scent lacked that so maybe it was new?

He looked around in interest, ears perked and tail swishing back and forth. His nose wasn't strong enough to find the source, but he was hoping to see the new face anyway. New people were always fascinating after all.

"The upper floors," he instructed one of the Elves, taking a load into the embassy. Turned, and his warrior's senses were sharpened, immediately. There was something wrong about the street.

A quick inspection proved that it was a young -- boy? Not human, not elf or demon, not any kind of creature that Aihlen had ever seen.

That probably meant worldwalker.

"Hello?" he called.

Touya noticed the man, who was a new face, when he addressed him and took a few steps towards him before waving in greeting. The scent he caught did seem to be from him. "Hi," he said quietly, almost hesitantly. If he was to live in a world where he could talk, then he would talk sometimes. Communication without words was hard a lot of the time so he could lean to use both ways.

"You don't smell like the city, where did you come from?"

"I come from a city called Edris," said Aihlen. "You don't look quite like anything I've ever seen; where are you from?" It was a neat little turnaround, setting the question back on the little boy.

Cho watched the goblins from a distance, not really wanting to get involved, but curious. She'd been displaced, she needed something to do with her days. And then they brought up a basket, and Cho could see a strange looking container, more scrap than design, and it was enough to get her moving forward. "That's mine," she said, pointed clearly at the vacuum. "What are you doing?" Because now that she was close enough, she could see all manner of things in the baskets that didn't belong in a lake. "Is that... a clock?"

Tarn raised his eyebrows, and glanced to Aspen, uncertain. She nodded, and he picked up the object, stepped forward, extended it out to Cho.

"Here," he said. "Can I ask what this is?" -- ignoring her question about the clock in favor of the vacuum in his hand, because this was quite interesting, and Tarn was ever an alchemist.

"Of course you can," Cho said, taking it back from him. "Just as I can ask you what you're doing, though apparently that doesn't mean an answer is forthcoming." She didn't like being around Royal. It made her anxious and snappy. "It's a vacuum." Which probably wasn't super helpful given the general knowledge in Rowan. Nothingness wasn't supposed to exist. It probably hadn't, until she'd made it for Kale.

Royal wasn't paying attention, at the moment, forgoing the conversation with Cho to watch the waters of the lake. He -- he thought he'd seen a disturbance, on the far shore.

"The divers are searching the lake for salvageable items," said Aspen, shortly. "Swept away by the flood. Better to search than to lose it forever."

"A vacuum," said Tarn, testing the word in his mouth. "A vacuuuuuuum. Yes, wonderful. One question. What's a vacuum?"
