Bret stopped, looking around for who had spoken. Oh- a pretty redhead. He gave a half-smile, uncertain. After all the girl-related drama lately he wasn't fully convinced that he knew how to be around girls (other than Cho, of course).
"Hi," he replied, "Are you new? I don't think I've seen you around here."
Bret took her hand and shook. He looked puzzled, but he did manage to introduce himself before asking questions. "I'm Bret. Uh. How did you get here, exactly?"
Since Jack had arrived waist-deep in the sand, he wasn't really sure how people were still getting to Rowan. After all, the tree was so far away...although Mikney had something to do with the tree, didn't he? Wait, is Mikney giving birth to fully grown people or something?
Bret pictured Penny flying head first through a shiny, glowing portal-type-thing in the middle of Mikney's chest. For some reason, all this made him think was all the really awkward times that could happen. It must be nerve wracking every time he uses the toilet.
"Through the tree in Jhelbor," Bret answered. He lifted a hand to gesture in the direction of the city and then remembered he had no idea where he was. "I don't really remember it happening, actually. One minute I was in Central Park, the next the elves were helping me to a bed."
He looked at her seriously for a moment. "Are you from Earth?"
Bret brightened. Oh, good, another normal person. Not that the people from other world weren't normal, but, well, Earth-people reminded him of home. Well, L.A. had never been home, so it wasn't-
"...yeh." Bret said, eyes still a little wide. She didn't seem to be too upset about dying or nearly dying or whatever the proper term for it was. In fact, it was like she was comforting him. What a strange girl. And he'd so been hoping to meet more nice, normal Earth people. Not that Billy wasn't nice or normal, he was just...a little twitchy. And he didn't seem to like Bret, sadly.
