A thunderclap pulled Cris from his sleep. He didn't think anything of the thunder, or the sound of rain outside of his shelter, at first... until he remembered that he was camped out in the middle of a pitching desert.

He sat up halfway, reaching out with his senses. He did it reluctantly, but he also had to know. It was hard to tell, but... There. It was faint, but this storm had traces of magic in it.

"Oh, no," he whispered. What was he supposed to do now? What could he do?

At first the sound of raindrops was comforting. If he were at home it would be raining. At home or at school, actually. He would be at school now. Final year, all full of promise and anticipation and giddy joy. The thunder, though, and the wind. So loud. So close. Too close.

Cedric snapped awake around the same time Robbie did. He wasn't sure who'd been jolted back into consciousness first. It didn't matter. The wind howled just outside the tent and another heavy spattering of raindrops came down on the heavy, oil treated cloth.

The tent was by the rocks leading down to the beach, and the beach ran into the pool, and the pool was low ground. Luckily, the water couldn't rise - it spilled over into the ravine. Still, all the runoff was going to flow past them, and the storm was only getting stronger. "We have to move," Cedric said, echoing the clear message in Robbie's eyes as he reached for his boots.

Oki's ears twitched at the first thunderclap and he roused himself from his sleep, picking himself up. Something was off. He wasn't certain what, but he could feel the storm...more specifically the water approaching, which was something new to him.

He sniffed the air before trotting further into the cave to find Cho. What he felt was strong, and he didn't know what to do about it it other than warn her and see what she said.

Oddly, the promise of so much water didn't really worry him...it left him with a sense of anticipation for some reason.

The rumble and the crash and the rolling noise. Cho turned over in her sleep, nose pressed into Niko's shoulder, and the warm fur from the coat Bret had brought to the cave tickling her cheek. The volcano was erupting across the bay. Cho breathed in deeply, but she couldn't smell the salt water. That wasn't right. The rumbling was getting louder, sharp and hard. Not right. Not home.

Cho felt something pressing against her leg, insistent, breaking through the dream. She sat up, disoriented and tired, and blinked her eyes at the huge wolf crouched on the cave floor in front of her. "Wazzit?" She yawned hard enough that her jaw popped. What time was it? She was so tired.

"There's a storm," Oki said, flicking his ears in the direction of the entrance. "It's a big one and I wasn't sure if we need to do anything to prepare."

He sat down, outline a bit hard to see in the dark. His red eyes watched he intently as he waited.

Storm? Rain. Rain in the desert? Sandstorm? No, Cho heard lightening. "How do you know it's a big storm?" she asked right as another loud clap of thunder boomed over their heads. Right, big storm. Question answered. Cho stood up and stepped into her boots, wiggling her feet down until her heel slid into place.

One of the jackets Bret had brought to the cave was dark maroon leather, and so small that it wouldn't have fit anyone but Cho. She struggled to get her arms through the sleeves while she walked to the mouth of the cave, feeling the heat of Oki walking close behind her and to one side. When she reached the opening, a flash of lightening lit up the sky and another thunderclap was close on its heels. "Oh, God." Cho looked down at the ground just outside the cave. The grass was already more than saturated. "We need to keep the water out of here. We've got to take care of everyone."

Cho held her cloak close around her. Even with the addition of the leather jacket and an oversized thick wool sweater, she was still cold. The wind was biting, and she wanted to be out of it. Still, if the water rose much higher around the cave, she was going to have a problem. What she needed was help. The cloak and sweater were both soaked by the time she reached the worldwalker camp. Hopefully it wouldn't be a waste of time.

JY had never been one to make major decisions. That had been Connor's role, whereas his was to judge and amend the solutions proposed. Or Mats had made the decisions, convinced JY they were right, and he then talked Connor into agreeing. But he didn’t make them. So he was standing just outside one of the lean-tos, deciding he’d rather be cold and wet, and trying to decide what exactly to do when he saw Cho. Immediately he walked toward her. “What’re you doing out here? Is everyone okay?” He wanted to tell her to duck into the lean-to, to get out of the wind, but he wasn't ready to trust the lean-tos, if the wind picked up.

Cho nodded her head. JY, she knew him. Hadn't spoken to him in a long time, but he was strong and she needed help. Some kind of help. "Right now, yes, but... there's too much water. It's coming down too fast." Way to go, wife of Captain Obvious. Like anyone couldn't tell that there was too much fucking water. "I'm afraid the cave might flood. If this goes on for much longer, we'll have to move them, and I don't know where to. They could drown so easily." Except for fucking creepy River Royal and his fucking creepy gills. He'd probably be happy as a clam. Literally.

“Where would we move them to?” Anywhere might flood. The oasis was too low. Any cave could fill with water. But unconscious people probably shouldn’t be laying out in the storm. Hell, conscious people shouldn’t be standing about in the storm, especially not people who remembered the last storm.

“We can probably close up the cave, and keep the water out. But then you could also be trapping people inside.” As far as he knew, Cho had been safeguarding the natives. JY would let her make the decision, and help in any case.

Bret had decided to sleep in one of the makeshift-shelter-things in the camp the past two nights. Normally he would've stayed in the cave with Cho, but after being almost completely ignored by Cordy, Cordy who'd been one of the first friends he'd made and usually knew him better than he knew himself but somehow didn't know that he'd never intentionally do anything to hurt her, he figured he was better off on his own.

He wasn't really sleeping, anyway. In fact, he'd probably only been asleep for an hour when the first thunderclap shocked him awake. He groaned in annoyance for a moment, then, eyes widening, he sat up and looked out at the sky.

It was raining. In the desert. "Oh flip." Well, maybe they'd all be dead soon and whether Cordy was mad at him or not wouldn't matter ( ... )

"Hi Bret!"

Demyx looked kind of thrilled- ok, no, really thrilled- at the rain. So much he was apparently going to state the obvious. "It's raining!" The way he was grinning ear to ear, he clearly didn't think there way anything wrong with this. Or at least was choosing to ignore that for the pure joy of yay rain!

"Uh." Demyx didn't seem to be reacting correctly to this. "Yeh. It is. Doesn't that seem like a bad thing? I mean, after last time..." He swept his already soaked hair out of his eyes, wondering at Demyx's good spirits.

Demyx paused, thinking about that. "Ok, yea, if it was like last time that would be bad, but they probably wouldn't have left the city, right? I mean, most people seem to be after the tree. I think." Ignoring the fact that the worldwalkers and Mikney were important too. "Besides, it's raining! In a desert! This is awesome!"
