Oki's ears twitched at the first thunderclap and he roused himself from his sleep, picking himself up. Something was off. He wasn't certain what, but he could feel the storm...more specifically the water approaching, which was something new to him.
He sniffed the air before trotting further into the cave to find Cho. What he felt was strong, and he didn't know what to do about it it other than warn her and see what she said.
Oddly, the promise of so much water didn't really worry him...it left him with a sense of anticipation for some reason.
The rumble and the crash and the rolling noise. Cho turned over in her sleep, nose pressed into Niko's shoulder, and the warm fur from the coat Bret had brought to the cave tickling her cheek. The volcano was erupting across the bay. Cho breathed in deeply, but she couldn't smell the salt water. That wasn't right. The rumbling was getting louder, sharp and hard. Not right. Not home.
Cho felt something pressing against her leg, insistent, breaking through the dream. She sat up, disoriented and tired, and blinked her eyes at the huge wolf crouched on the cave floor in front of her. "Wazzit?" She yawned hard enough that her jaw popped. What time was it? She was so tired.
"There's a storm," Oki said, flicking his ears in the direction of the entrance. "It's a big one and I wasn't sure if we need to do anything to prepare."
He sat down, outline a bit hard to see in the dark. His red eyes watched he intently as he waited.
Storm? Rain. Rain in the desert? Sandstorm? No, Cho heard lightening. "How do you know it's a big storm?" she asked right as another loud clap of thunder boomed over their heads. Right, big storm. Question answered. Cho stood up and stepped into her boots, wiggling her feet down until her heel slid into place.
One of the jackets Bret had brought to the cave was dark maroon leather, and so small that it wouldn't have fit anyone but Cho. She struggled to get her arms through the sleeves while she walked to the mouth of the cave, feeling the heat of Oki walking close behind her and to one side. When she reached the opening, a flash of lightening lit up the sky and another thunderclap was close on its heels. "Oh, God." Cho looked down at the ground just outside the cave. The grass was already more than saturated. "We need to keep the water out of here. We've got to take care of everyone."
"I think I can manage to keep out part of the water," Oki said, though he wasn't sure how he knew. But he could feel it, much like when he'd had mastery over the ice and knew it would do what he wanted to. "But I don't know how much or for how long yet."
Cho nodded thoughtfully, and was already heading back to the table of extra clothing and pulling on another layer, looking for her cloak. It wouldn't do much good against the wind blowing, but as long as it stayed reasonably settled it should keep her reasonably dry. Reasonably... not always the same as actually. "Do the best you can. I'll try and find someone to help." Help do what, she had no idea, but help all the same.
Cho reached out and, regardless of whether it was demeaning or not, buried her hand in Oki's fur and pet him a few times. "I will. Thank you. Just... keep them safe until I get back, please." And then she headed out, pulling the cloak tight around her and hoping she would find someone fast.
