Who: Lottie, Cedric, Robbie, Ginny, Cris, and NPCs What: Day three, the forest breaks Where: Foothills ---> Base of the mountain range When: Thursday, late morning ---> Friday
Robbie had mixed feelings about the change of scenery, himself. He liked the forest. It provided cover, should they need it, and even the labyrinth section they'd been warned away from hadn't been particularly unpleasant for him. Now they were going to be exposed, and he wasn't sure how prepared some of the members of their party were for more challenging terrain. Mountains would slow them down. It might be a more cheerful journey, however, if Lottie's reaction was any indication. It was nice to feel that they were actually getting somewhere, not just treading down the same endless path. "About a day away, I'd guess," he said. "Depending on how hard we push and how navigable the road through the hills is."
Cedric was less concerned with the change of scenery than he was with the fact that they still hadn't see anyone else out here. If there was a war on, then who were the elves fighting? No signs of civilization at all - nothing but forest, then hills, and now mountains. They hadn't prepared for mountains. Not that they could have - the elves had not provided climbing gear, and Cedric wouldn't have known what to do with it even if they had. What if there was nothing to be found? If there really was no war, though... then what was it that the elves needed them for? Cedric penned a quick journal entry to Sonic, closed the quill between the pages, and stashed the little book in a pocket. When they hit the mountains, they would most likely have to turn back. Was the wall of fire a constant? At home, Cedric would have assumed it was some kind of magical defense, but what did he know about fire in Rowan? Perhaps that was just one more way to mark out the end of the world. The more important question was, was he willing to risk attempting it

Ginny wasn't quite as happy to see the mountains as Lottie was, but at least it was something different. She was kind of concerned about how they were going to get over those mountains, but apparently they didn't have to deal with that until tomorrow. In the meantime they only had hills. They reminded her a little bit of home, and she wasn't sure yet whether that was a good thing or a bad thing. "I wonder if they have sheep here?" she said to no one in particular.
Eventually the thrill of the mountains wore off as Lottie realized they probably had to walk through the range. She wondered if it would be cold, if there would be snow (she had never seen it before!), and if they would be able to follow a path around them, or if they would have to scale them. She hoped upon hope that there was a path

"No other choice, really." Except to turn back, and he wasn't giving up just yet. Now in his spare clothes, as the original set had to be washed and dried to remove the slick of fish slime, Cedric eyed the path with more than a bit of apprehension. Cris seemed to be faring all right, but he was worried about Lottie, who was obviously not used to this kind of strain. He was worried about Ginny, because apparently that was his default setting these days. He was also worried about Robbie - his friend was looking slightly better than when they'd first met, but was still just skin and bones. "Hold a minute." A few yards up the path, he stopped them, and cast heating charms on their clothing and inside their shoes. Once Ginny knew this was possible, she insisted on doing her own, and that made Cedric smile. He pushed as much heat as he could into his extra clothing, and gave it to Robbie to layer with. It wasn't a huge difference overall, but warmth was warmth, and they were in serious need of it. With everyone now prepared as best they
