Who: Lottie, Cedric, Robbie, Ginny, Cris, and NPCs
What: Day three, the forest breaks
Where: Foothills ---> Base of the mountain range
When: Thursday, late morning ---> Friday
To say the least, Lottie had not been physically prepared for the absolute trek this journey had been so far. Impulse had overridden the essential thought that should have taken place before she decided to go, and now she was sharply reminded of just how much a city girl she was. Her legs ached with the constant walking over less-than-smooth terrain, she felt irritated, and her stomach reminded her that it was in serious withdrawal of Chee-tos. A girl could not survive on bread and fruit alone. At least not one accustomed to eating out at least once a week.
Thankfully, Cedric and Ginny had become wonderfully apt at using their ever-growing magical abilities to catch small game (not every time, mind you). It still amazed her every time she saw it, the way the rabbits flew right into their hands as if by elastic string. And Robbie, strong and silent thing that he was, was very good at killing and cleaning the animals. Apart from the success with gathering food, though, the mood overall in the group was rather strained and tensed. Everyone seemed to be off in their own little worlds. Ginny seemed peeved still, presumably over the entire situation, and well, Cedric and Robbie just struck Lottie as sullen. Cris, however, was a constant--always chipper, and he was very good at pulling Lottie from her head when she needed it the most. There was only so much thinking about the tragedy of war and its ability to travel worlds one could do.
They were on day four of the journey. Following Cedric's instructions on the first day, they had turned left and headed east at the crossroads. Apparently the other group had gone right, and he had already been straight. No wall of fire, thank you very much.
It was smooth sailing through the forest, until a thunderstorm hit on the second day and they were forced to bunker down in a damp cave. Especially after that, no one was in a good mood. But they trudged along, and finally, finally, the forest cleared up ahead.
Lottie smiled to herself and picked up speed as the trees thinned. "Mountains!" she cheered. Oh, what a beautiful change in scenery.
