There is a bookstore next to our downtown store, set deep into an open lobby (aka the Cave, home for some of the islands bats). They are lovely, and the people who work there are all glorious and I love them. One of them offered to get me a kitten, another offered to watch the store while I ran some errands (tonight was a surprise 12 hour work ( Read more... )

I read Kite Runner for class in AP World, during High School. Very intense book, but good.

Ender's Game is pretty awesome as well. 2nd favorite Sci-Fi novel.

Which begs the question: what's your no. 1 sci-fi book?

Those books sound fantastic. I'll have to track down Norse Code as well, thank you for telling me of it.

Yeah, do - it's bizarre sci-fi mythology. What a brilliant combination!

*Bounce* Excitement!

These books look great, especially the Norse Code one. I look forward to your reviews. I need to do more for fun reading. Tell me more about Kite Runner, I'm curious.

Kite Runner looks like a super intense (and probably depressing book) set in Afghanistan before the Taliban. It follows the friendship of two boys - the wealthy boy and his servant's son - as they live through the invasion and revolution. What's exciting is that it was written in Afghan by and Afghan and translated into English, so it's not an American guessing what life was like through research (see: the Diary of a Geisha). It's still fiction, but I'm hoping it'll give me better insight into the history of the area, and help contextualize what the fuck we're doing there now.

Your book list is full of squee. (I wish I'd known you'd only read Ender's Game once - I somehow own five copies. Not sure how that happened.)

Oh, and Please please please post reviews of Norse Code and Street Magic when you read them! I've never heard of Norse Code before, but it sounds delicious like a caramel apple. And I thought about buying Street Magic once, but then someone said fans of Laurel K. Hamilton would like it, which made me think there was a chance it could be thinly disguised porn. If it's not porn, I might have to look it up again!

Oh, and speaking of porn, I read Water for Elephants a few summers ago. I think I posted about it... oh, here: http://lex-of-green.livejournal.com/153310.html. Water For Elephants is not porn, but my review seems to talk mostly about penises. Huh.

Anyway, it is delightful to see you here on the ol' Internets! Aaaaaand now I want to stay home and read books all day instead of going to work. Ah well.

I keep picking up Water for Elephants in bookstores and then putting it back. You should tell me what you think. It looks interesting but maybe a little too dark for me. Also, I want to hear what you think about the silly books. <3<3 and also *hugs*
