HEATHER PROTESTS THE PG RATING. Birthday-shopping should involve profanity and explosions! foolishwren June 13 2011, 23:36:05 UTC
When Aoko came down the stairs, Heather had been facing the lobby windows, thumbs in the belt-loops of her shorts and eyes lidded against the glare of the sunshine. Hot out today. WAY hot. It was the time of year for tank-tops, sandals, and ice cream. Right now she had-- ... well, okay, only two of the three-- but hey, today was a day out. She could always bully the other two into getting the latter with her once they were done.

She had arrived in Johto almost exactly a year before-- and, well, back then, she hadn't much been able to appreciate the summertime in the wake of having been yanked into a different world. This year, however... it was gonna be different. No-- it already was different. A good kind of different.

At the sound of Aoko's voice, she turned around with a half-grin.

"I'm ready. Better get the show on the road if we wanna get things done without running into the birthday boy somewhere along the line and having to explain ourselves to him. ... But for the record, if we do, we should totally just stare at him ( ... )

The Olivine docks are nothing like what Crow is used to -- namely, they're clean, safe and full of buzz and laughter -- or in other words, life -- thanks to all the sailors and merchants. If you ask him, the place feels really nice.

--But this isn't about the place, but rather what they can find there!

"Not unless we're planning on getting him one of these lighthouse miniatures, nope."

And then Crow is forced to explain for the next to minutes to the seller that no, he's really not interested in buying one.

Aoko found the docks very enjoyable. Bustling with shoppers and merchants, it looked like a great place to find some birthday supplies.

But....those sellers can get pretty annoying.

"I don't think he'd like that, no." Aoko looks around a bit, and then sees a store with streams and balloons outside. Looking inside, it had similar items for sale.

"How about we try here?" And she points to the store.

She doesn't bother hiding her snickers at watching Crow getting accosted by streetside vendors-- though when they REALLY won't leave him alone, she'll be stepping in brightly to throw an arm around Crow's shoulders and steeeeeeer him away from the vendors.

"Balloons and streamers! Sounds promising, let's go."

Crow appreciates her help, because honestly? It was needed. Not that he'll admit it, muttering 'thanks' under his breath before immediately turning his attention to the store Aoko's pointing at.

"Hey, isn't that exactly what we're looking for? Let's check it out!"

With that cheerful proclamation, the duelist pretty much storms into the colorful store.

"Okay!"

She walks into the store after Crow, and begins walking through the aisles to see what kinds of things would suit Kaito's party. She picked up a few bags of green and blue streamers, and put them in the shopping basket she grabbed on the way in. She noticed a few party poppers, and thought they would be perfect. After browsing a bit more, she turned to the others.

"Have you guys found anything that looks good?"

It doesn't take long for Heather to disappear in the store-- at least the place is small.

When she shows up again, though, she's got an armful of various odds and ends-- the largest of which being a somewhat tacky cloth banner in flashy blues and silvers, along with a clipart-esque image of a Drowzee in psychedelic sunglasses and sparkly text reading DUDE, IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY! FAR OUT. It's one of those things manufactured in an attempt to appeal to younger generations by overly-earnest adults who genuinely think that the kiddies will think it's 'cool'-- which Heather has always found and still finds utterly hilarious. Some things are just universal.

"A couple things. Look, I picked up party hats with, like, Dragon-types on them."

She lifts up a set of cheap but colorful party hats that all feature fearsome faces like Charizard and Aerodactyl. ... Well, all except for the single flowery pink one.

"I vote that in the party, we wear all the cool hats and only leave the Princess Cynderquilla hat for Kaito."

He's done some digging in the shop as well, and when he comes back, he's holding a few packs of various Pokemon-shaped balloons (Drifloon and Drifblim being a popular motif, for some reason), but when he sees what Heather's found, he nearly drops them.

"What the hell--"

Never in his life has he seen something this tacky... except maybe for the completely ridiculous outfit Jack bought on that one occasion, but aside from that? Crow wasn't mentally prepared to face this sort of hideousness.

But when the initial phase of complete shock and utter disbelief is over, Heather's words actually reach him and he can't help but grin mischievously.

"I'm sure he'll love it."

By which he means they will.

Aoko just sort of...stares at it for a while. But then she starts cracking up. They really shouldn't get it, they shouldn't. Kaito would hate them for the rest of their lives, and be so grumpy about it when he saw it.

"Let's get that!" So, of course, they absolutely have to get it. She shows the streamers and ribbons they could use to tie around the room and onto the balloons Crow found.

"Okay, we have streamers, ribbons and balloons, and a banner. Let's see if we can find some party poppers or something to surprise him with." And by surprise, she means give him a heart attack.

Of course they should get it, Aoko. This is what friends do.

Beaming, Heather picks up a basket and dumps her findings into it.

"Or one of those really tacky cards that play, like, obnoxious rock music when you open them..."
