[Superboy was eager for the fight to begin. Even though Wally had mentioned something about probably needing to test out his strength here in Johto, he never really found a good time to. If anything, this was the best time to test it out. But it's not like he's totally worried. He's pretty strong at home, so what should it matter here in Johto?
Closing his eyes momentarily, he took a deep breath and sighed as he got into a fighting stance. He was so ready for this fight.]
[That makes two egos in the ring here; as much as he'd usually keep them for an actual Kendo match, he's foregone the pads - he hasn't really seen anyone else with such, and like hell he'd accept winning if there was any sign of an unfair fight.]
[Sure, his experience is all pretty much sword on sword (or sword vs. shark-dragon, recently), but he's not worried about that; either he'll adapt, or he'll get a good idea what to cover for in the future.]
[He does settle into stance with a brief test moment with the bo-ken - but like Hell he's not trying to take control of this fast; it's only a short pause before he's making a sideways test-strike.]
oh the egosssss |DallmyraegOctober 8 2011, 00:19:07 UTC
[his brows raised as he saw the bokken. While he isn't very familiar with most things in this place, he's at least somewhat familiar with that. He smirks as he watches the boy in front of him do a couple of test strikes.]
[About the third such? Is very abruptly going from a test-swing into a lunge; he's going more for a fast tag to get a reaction and see how his opponent acts, and if he can get some kind of leverage, than trying for a one-hit-out - he at least knows trying THAT is liable to get him on his ass fast - and that smug probably means this guy's seen swordwork and Kendo before.]
[Not standard form - for now that's registering as more of a challenge, although really? Heiji might not go down easy, but he's not nearly as real-field experienced; he shifts weight and weaves out of the way barely, off-balance a little, bringing the blade back around for another swing to try and cover his recovery.] Not bad!
[As much as he tried to stop himself from getting hit, he couldn't stop in time. His body just didn't work the way he was used to back home. Taking a moment to look over the spot where he was hit he exhales. Even though it didn't really hurt now, he knew it was going to smart later. (Or something...)] You're not bad yourself, but if you think this is going to stop me then you should stop right now.
[When was the last time he'd worn full armor? It was lucky he had it around, if only for situations exactly like this. It felt remarkably nostalgic, of all things. It had been ten months since Fuyuki, ten long months since his second meeting with death.]
[Ten months since the Holy Grail War that was now going to be reenacted in some small fashion.]
[It was funny to him, how few people surely comprehended what it was they were seeing. They saw two humans about to fight, not the clash of heroes it truly was. Even without their powers, this would be a good match--he'd make sure of that.]
[In Lancer's hand was, surprisingly, not a lance at all; it was a practice sword similar to Saber's own. He was skilled with a blade, but not the best; that title should rightfully have gone to the girl before him. Still, she was at a disadvantage in a human body, and Lancer wouldn't fight someone on anything but even footing if he could help it.]
You ready?
[There was tension in the air betwen them, the exhilarating tension just before a fight. He
( ... )
A handicap? Hardly--I held a sword long before I ever wielded a lance. I once held Fragarach, you know, and I figured it'd be better to face you with a decent sword than a hastily thrown-together lance.
[A cheerful grin broke out across his face in response to her irritation.]
I'll use whatever weapon I like because I'm not facing you as Lancer, not here. I'm done being a Servant, and I'm done answering to any Master.
["I can't change what I've done, so I won't waste my life on regrets and 'what if I did things differently'."]
Listen carefully, because I'll say this only once. For as long as I'm here I'll live on my terms. Following nobody's word but my own. And I'll never go back on that.
['I'm going to live for everyone I know that can't--Ferdiad and Connla especially. So I'm damn well going to make it a life worth living.']
So quit looking at me like I'm mocking you. I stand across from you as Cú Chulainn, and I expect you to take me as seriously as I'm taking you.
Don't call me a liar and don't ever assume I would turn my back on my word! My Master is dead, Saber, and so is the one that killed her! If she were still alive I would hold myself to our contract and follow her into hell and back again without a second thought!
...You know me well enough by now to understand that. I never go back on my word, but there's no one here I've given it to.
[His grip tightened on the sword in his hands, sudden scowl turning to a confident grin. Lancer raised his own sword to block her strike, intending to push her back before responding with one of his own.]
I'll show you the difference between our skills myself--!
Of course there is, and if they ever need me they should know I'll be there--!
[At least he hoped Rin and Shirou had enough of a clever thought in their heads to realize that. Without them, without Saber...he didn't have anything or anyone. No truly close friends and certainly no family.]
But I didn't swear any oath to them. I didn't need to and I hadn't planned on it. [He swung the sword at her again, motions skilled but slowed by disuse. How long had it been since he'd seriously fought with a sword?]
Is there something so wrong with wanting to live for myself for a little while?
