Ed would have to get a new coat after this. Is was pretty beat up, along with the staff he had been using, and he was actually surprised it had lasted this long to begin with.
He was practically bouncing in anticipation for this fight. Despite having close calls in most some of his previous fights, he was feeling pretty cocky about this one. He waited impatiently for his opponent.
Honestly, Ironhide had expected to be facing Cliffjumper. It made the most sense, after all. They were both warriors, both soldiers. But instead, he was being placed against a small, blonde, human boy.
Granted, the boy had made his way to the final round, but still. It was... odd, to say the least.
He stepped forward. The huge weapons master folded his arms, staring down his opponent. His eyes tracked automatically to the staff. He was unarmed, but it had served him well so far.
Ed's face fell. this guy was huge. Like, Major Armstrong huge. This would be....hm.
He took a deep breath and took his stance. Ed's cockiness was gone, but his determination was still there, despite the fact that most of Ed's victories here have been mostly thanks to luck, not his skill. Still, he could do this. He'd just...not have to fuck up.
In most situations, that would have been Ironhide's method of choice. But in most situations, the big Autobot was fighting his own kind -- hulking soldiers made of metal and weaponry. This was a small human.
He had to change tactics.
Ironhide waited as the boy came closer. As he approached, Ironhide made his move, grabbing for the weapon the boy held. If he could, he'd use it as leverage to toss his opponent into the air, and upset the charge completely.
Ironhide grabbed it alright. Ed knew it'd be no use tugging back on it. He too small tiny beany minuscule challenged when it came to size, so he immediately let go of it, mostly avoiding being thrown in the the air. Although Ironhide didn't manage to toss him in the air like a rag-doll, he did completely ruin Ed's attack.
Ed countered by running in to try to get close, crouching down to build up for a jump kick so he could reach Ironhide's face.
And now he had a weapon. A long weapon. He preferred his cannons, and all manner of firearms to melee weapons, but he would work with what he had. He saw the start of the crouch... and swept the spear in front of him, toward the boy.
Knock the enemy off his feet, then close in. That was his plan.
Ed was in the air when Ironhide swung the staff at him, making it impossible for him to dodge.
BAM!! Ed was knocked out of the air and he landed hard on the ground, his ribcage taking the full force of the blow. Ed slowly picked himself up and did his best to fill his lungs back with air despite the throbbing pain going through his torso. "Damnit!"
If he had been back in Amestris, now would be the point where he would just use alchemy to his advantage. Too bad for him that wasn't an option here. He attacked again, this time staying low and keeping a better eye on that damned staff, aiming for Ironhide's legs in order to sweep them from under him.
He swings the staff back down, at the ready, after the impact. And, despite the boy being on the ground, he made no move to charge him. Let him get to his feet, let him prepare himself. This was only a fight for fun, after all. No sense in pounding the boy into the ground.
And then the boy was coming at him again. Lower. The legs had vulnerable joints. He swung the staff again, to throw his opponent's aim off, shifting his weight to try and move to one side of the rush.
This time, Ed managed to dodge out of the way, though doing so prevented him from hitting him too. He clenched his fists. If he didn't find a way to get close, this fight was lost. Even though he had brought the staff in the first place, it looked like that would have to go first. Hopefully, his automail would stand up to it without it getting broken...
When the boy dodged, Ironhide... laughed. It wasn't intended to be a mocking sound. More approving than anything. His opponent was quick. He could appreciate that.
He shifted the staff to one hand, and swung his other fist down, aiming for the boy's shoulder, or midsection.

Doing what he did best, Ed rushed his opponent.
