Executive: D
House: D
Senate: D

So much for checks and balances.

"But Amy," you might say, "You weren't upset about checks and balances when there was a combination of Republican Executive and Republican Congress."

Yeah. News flash: Conservatives tend to be, you know, conservative rather than extremist. You don't expect to see them headed in a ( Read more... )

It wont be THAT bad. Besides the darker the darkness the brighter the light shines. Think about it like that. That is how I'm getting myself through.

Not yet.

God may be in control, but He's pretty much promised us tribulations.

Well, though I disagree with your thoughts about it. If McCain had been like the McCain before the Republican Party took over and forced him to "play the part" so to speak, in other words if he had been like he was during his last speech, I would have voted for him. As it was the McCain that was running I didn't like.

I don't think it is going to be as bad as you think. For either party. I am glad that the Democrats didn't get the magic 60 number. I think that would have been to much power.

But all in all I am glad about how it turned out. I hope it just brings to light that both parties need to work on things for this country to get out of it's slump.

Yeeah, I have something of an Eeyore philosophy. When you expect the worst you'll be pleasantly surprised if things turn out well, and you can't be disappointed if they go as badly as you think they will. It probably won't be as bad as it could be, but the potential (and the potential for it being much worse) is there and that's got me bummed ( ... )

Dude has stated that he wants to redistribute wealth, meaning that the government will be taking money from the people who have worked hard to earn it and then giving it to people who haven't.

Generally, the people with the most wealth are the people who have been born in it. They haven't done shit for what they've got other than not dying. I know I sure as hell haven't.

Also, most people who would be on the receiving end work a hell of a lot harder than anyone else. So yeah. I don't think it's going to be some sort of twisted evil version of Robin Hood.

To be fair--The post $250k bracket would have had their taxes raised under both canididates--or rather restored. The raise in question was whether or not to allow Bush's temporary tax breaks to expire or become permanent. Under the current and future Congress, I don't see how the "raise" could be avoided at all. I still don't understand why Obama is being called socialist, when he doesn't even fit the term, or have any plans that calls for Government ownership of any sector (outside of space R&D and military).

I personally hope that, whatever the means, America will remain a country of freedom and choice, with a government that allows the market to reign, and helps the free market without owning it. And for that matter, a government that spends less than it earns--like it did 10 years ago. And... last but not least... I'd like to live in a U.S. where I can buy at least more than one anime/game a month.

Well, no matter how the world changes, I can always find sanctuary in stories, either writing mine or reading others, and I've heard you say something similar. Keep the hope in your heart and stay creative. The world may not be anything near perfect, but you can still create all sorts of wonderful worlds and characters and situations.

Good luck with November Novel Writing Month! (I can never remember the classy shorthand name) I'm rooting for ya! :D

I agree about the stories thing. Write write write! I love Amy's start, by the way. Ask her if you can read it. :)

ironicly enough, America has become very intolerant of intolerance.

Only intolerance of particular things. Which of course demonstrates hypocrisy.

Intolerance of views that I hold seems to be perfectly acceptable among the mainstream media and a majority of my acquaintances. Or at least that's the impression I get.
