you learn something new every day

Today I learned that there's a company in town that offers synthetic lawns. Like, Astroturf at home. Not so surprising, I guess, but I think their marketing strategy is pretty interesting: Conservez votre eau et jetez votre tondeuse qui pollue jusqu'a 100 fois plus qu'une simple voiture! The environmental angle, ( Read more... )

marketing always mean lies. I have a push mower. More than enough for my lawn. And I haven't really had to water it. And I could even water it with collected rain water.

Totally! We're looking into getting a rain barrel.

Maybe they're talking about the man in The Straight Story who traveled on his lawnmower...

a lot of cities have bylaws against native plants (weeds). it depends.
astrotturf lawn is neat, and is totally better than using all that drinking water on grass, but no ecosystem.
if you have a lot of shade, moss is a consideration. all you need is a patch of live moss, a blender, and a sprayer attachment for your garden hose. you blend the moss in water, then spray it on. it will grow.
pee ess. we're back in the province now, but I work weekends... my new schedule leaves tuesday, wednesday and friday free, though I may be able to pan off a thursday onto one of my coworkers. amanda's totally open as her job is now done for the summer. we should schedule a visit.
bless.

Hmm. Certain weeds, yeah, like ragweed. My parents got a warning once for having too wild a lawn. Stupid bylaws!

Welcome back! We should schedule something. I'm working Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Eric's doing regular hours, BUT we both have 2 weeks off. The last week in July and the first week in August.

My parents have a push mower that they're looking to give away. One important thing about the push mowers is that most don't work very well when your lawn gets too long, or if tall weeds sprout up, so you have to be very vigilant about mowing.

I've seen a few lawns with clover instead of grass; they look quite nice, IMO.

Oh, and I was hoping to pop by for a visit on Sun, maybe get a look at the new house (where it is, what it looks like on the outside)?

Push mowers are cool! Right now I imagine pushmowing to be so much fun that I'd do it all the time. The reality is probably different though, hahaha...

I'd like to see you soon and show you the place (from the outside - we don't get the keys for another week) but I don't know if Sunday will work. Possibly Sunday evening depending on if I have band practice or not.

Hmm, I have band practice. Some evening during the week perhaps?

That stuff is commonly offered by landscapers here, but I don't know anyone who has it. Some huge lots in Scottsdale have actual tiny golf courses, so I suppose they might. We have gravel as our front lawn, and some cacti, and Australian plants. That's pretty standard.

Yeah, a rock garden is still much more appealing than plastic!
