Views from my house!

Dec 12, 2007 00:30

This is me at my most boring, I suspect!!
It struck me recently how different the scenery here can look over a relatively short period of time. So I have developed a habit of taking shots of views from the house in two or three directions, sometimes several in one day, sometimes several in one hour, to show the countryside in her changing moods and ( Read more... )

Wow! Okay, it might be geeky, but...no, it's not. It's an eye for beauty and a joy in the changes of nature. These are gorgeous. I like them, anyway. (Although, admittedly, I'm a bit of an England geek. *g*)

Thank you! I look forward to seeing more.

Hmm. Maybe I should post a photo of all the snow surrounding my house.... *g*

Aww, thank you - what a nice compliment! It is beautiful, though and so variable. I will post a few more from time to time, since people seem to like them! Got a very nice one this morning - all pink rippled sky.... could go on for ever!
And yes, why not post a picture of the snow - you won't get many of those from here! I always love to see and read about my LJ Friends' lives.
To which, I should add , of course, my sincere good wishes for your birthday today! Many happy returns of the day and thank you so much for all the wonderful stories you write. My heart always lifts when I see a new story from you! May you have a lovely day and lots of lovely pressies! Hope the ice storm which is making the news here has missed you.

Thank you for the happy birthday wishes! The ice storm did miss us, thank goodness--all to the south. We're cold but sunny. We will definitely have a white Christmas this year.

And thank you so much for the compliment about my stories! I'm thrilled to hear that from you. I reckon it makes us even--I like your posts! *g*

Thank you! It is interesting to see how quickly and how much it can change, isn't it? M was taken by surprise yesterday meeting me when I came rushing upstairs to take the second photograph as the sun hit the hill! But in only a few more minutes it was fading, I was just glad I had glanced out of the kitchen window and spotted it!
And yes, I have to admit we bought the house because of the views. We were looking for a house on this estate and I spotted this one, saw the view from the front, worked out what the view from the back would be like and we decided we would buy it, without even seeing inside! The inside you can re-decorate, the outsie you are stuck with!

Thank you, it's good to know you enjoy seeing them. It is a lovely place and I'm getting a kick out of really looking and seeing changes in the light, etc. It's so easy to take the scenery for granted because we see it all the time.

Not boring at all, I think it's fascinating! I actually started to do something similar here, from my new windows, but I've not posted anything yet, inspired by smirra's Weather Station pics! Now there are three of us, we can be geeky over our changing-nature pictures together, yeay! *g*

Oh, yes please, do join in! I was amazed how much it can vary in only a few minutes, let alone a few months. I'm really looking forward to keeping this going, though maybe not quite at this intensity, so I have a sort of record for a year, maybe or even more to compare!
I looked at smirra's LJ (we're not friended at the moment, though I see we have a huge proportion of our f-lists in common!) but couldn't see anything about Weather Stations, on there. Am I looking in the wrong place?
Maybe I should set up a website for my "changing scenes" - somewhere to keep the piccies!

I've thought about doing this loads of times and have actually taken a few when we've had snow. I like the misty mornings when all you can see is the church spire poking up out of the mist. Perhaps I will join you on this now that I have my pc up and running again.

It does get addictive, you know - I'm constantly running for the camera when I glance out and the light has changed again. But lovely when you actually manage to capture ones like yesterdays! And we haven't had many really misty mornings this year, or maybe I'm getting up too late and missing them!
So, yes, go on - join me on this one. BSL is talking of doing so, too, so it would be really interesting to see other places, too.
I've got into the knack now, of zooming in fully for the front shot and focussing the little cross on the screen on the clump of pines on the side of the hill, to make sure I get almost the same shot each time. At the back, I stay at normal focus but focus on the small tree at the top of the bottom field. Seems to work! Look forward to seeing some of yours.
