A few things spring to mind--maybe she knew from first or second hand knowledge he was a child molester (either did something to her when she was younger, or did something to someone she loves). Or she's very vigilant about the sex offenders where you live because something similiar happened to her or someone she loves/loved.

Only certain kinds of sex offenders have limitations on where they can live and patronize (at least in the US).

And it's entirely possible that he wasn't even convicted for the crime, but knows for a fact he's done something to someone. That would be my guess in this case.
