so i have 3 big boxes of vhs tapes. i know that when i move i'll be reluctant to take them with me. the problem is this: i spent many a hard earned teenage dollar on those fucking things! there are some pretty great movies in that collection! what to do? suggestions?

Keep them! That is if you like old school stuff.

Also another idea might be to get one of those vhs/dvd machines so you can the best of both worlds.

i think i'll be taking the advice of all three suggestions. i am going to keep my most valued vhs' (i have a lot of home videos that i dont want to throw away!). i cant replace my nin video vhs tape or my alice in chains one.. i'll just have to cut my 3 big boxes down to one small one. i do have a nice vcr so it's not like i can't watch them.. i just cant picture lugging around alllll those movies. maybe one day converting them will be easier!

let them go...

it's sad, but if you take them along once, you'll be lugging the bloody things along for years - store them at your dad's place, or sell them on ebay...

hey so if you're planning on getting your own place, I have a bunch of spare housewares I can give you

alas, i shall. most of them. i think i'll keep half a small box or so. we had a videocamera when i was younger and those tapes are not something i want to throw away! thanks for the advice, you're right.

oh man, that would be awesome, but i'm not quite ready. getting there, though. when i am ready you'll be the first person i talk to.. if they're still around then, i'll definitely appreciate them!

oh yea, personal tapes must be kept forever - just stuff like tv shows and movies that you can find again should be chucked.

and yea, I know you are stuck until you finish school - I'm a pack rat and won't be throwing anything out soon. For example, I'd love a good excuse to buy myself a new vacuum cleaner! - my old one is too good to throw out, but not good enough to pick up the threads after I do some sewing

buy a tv tuner for your mac and convert them to dvd. all you have to do is hook up a vcr to the video-in on the tuner (which is then connected to your laptop via most likely a firewire, or possibly usb cable), and then play each tape while a feed goes into the tuner and is sampled into a digital signal and recorded onto your hard drive as what will likely be an mpeg or avi (ms) standard.

and plus you'll be able to watch them as you go :)
