Random Thoughts While Noah Naps

1. Dear moms on TheNest.com who all have put their 2 month olds on a daily nighttime schedule of bath-bottle-book-bed: I think you are crazy. Reading to your kids is great, but at 2 months old, I don't really think they care. Also, babies do not get that dirty, and thus do not need a bath every day. In fact, you may be drying out their skin *more* ( Read more... )

Being unemployed, I have also seen that commercial about 982734 times. I have never done anything more than two steps to my hair (twist around, insert pencil) except for homecoming dances. They also are assuming that it takes so long to do your makeup that your hair can set in rollers. I am not a big makeup person but if it takes more than five minutes you need to cut down! Do women really do that every day (or night)?

I agree about the books - it's good to have them around and lots of people give them as shower gifts, but 2 month olds would probably have more fun chewing on them. And as for the bath, you're wiping the parts that get dirty six times a day anyway, what's the point? Sheesh.

That commercial irks me, too.

I think my parents were reading to me at two months old but, well, yeah. Six months makes more sense.

I know I'm not a parent yet and maybe when I try it I will find it pointless, but right now I do see the point of reading to a 2 month old, however I realize that that point is exposing the baby to the tone of your voice or exposing the baby to different sounds created by words and therefore at that age you should be reading what you want to read. This allows you to have some time to enjoy something for you while still having bonding time. (An other example is when my niece was born, my sister's social worker assigned her to read parenting magazines to the baby, so my sister got the information from the parenting magazine, and she made sure the baby was talked to.)

my mom was working on her masters while she was pregnant (and after) with me. I was read a lot of text books when I was a baby! :) It's the sing-songy intonation of the voice I think that soothes/settles the baby and who cares what the words are! ha!

Guess people missed what you were saying.

You were talking about the fact that these parents are preaching this bath-book-bottle-bed routine like it's THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO TO YOUR BABY EVAR™

You're not saying there's anything wrong with the components themselves, just the Obsessive Routinization of them.

Oh, and another thing - these parents are active commenters on "The Nest" which makes them the parental equivalent of the popular girls in High School.

If I'm not too much mistaken, roseinmist only reads their tripe to reassure her that there are more inept parents out there than she feels she is.
