Ahhh, I'm so thrilled--I posted my first ever full-fledged Doctor Who fic last night (mini-drabbles and crossover pieces notwithstanding--didn't really count the drabbles since those aren't full fics, and I didn't really count my current Doctor Nez fic, either, since that is more Monkees-focused, in spite of River's cameos ( Read more... )

Why do they have two hearts? Klingons [from Star Trek] have two in case one fails. Is that the same case here?

...Sort of. While they can survive with one heart, the main function of the two hearts is the secret of their conditional immortality (they won't age) and is linked to their ability to regenerate if fatally wounded.

... If they won't age, what's the explanation for One looking rather old?

The BBC has done an awesome job retconning everything to maintain perfect continuity--it's been retconned that Gallifreyans are born with only one heart, and that allows them to go from infancy to adulthood and old age, and when they are ready to regenerate, their second heart develops and begins the process. That explains both One's appearance, as well as Susan having aged when she returned in The Five Doctors.

Patrick's gray hair in The Two Doctors was retconned in one of the prose stories as a side effect of one of Two's missions after he was exiled and his regeneration sentence postponed.

And Five's aged appearance in Time Crash was retconned as a side effect of two merging TARDISes.

These are some very interesting plunnies here, especially the one you've detailed. I've never been crazy about imagining futures like that (or Earth futures at all, really), but I wouldn't be surprised if it really does come to that someday. And the concept has certainly helped inspire an intense and heartbreaking fic!

(Was Ten using the amnesia thing in that Angel episode where he didn't seem to know he was the Doctor at the end? That part puzzled me ever since I saw it.)

And all your talk of Doctor Who has finally caused me to have a dream with the Doctor in it. I'm not sure which one it was, though; it didn't seem to be made clear. But he was traveling with Sailor Pluto as a companion, which actually makes sense, as she is the Senshi of Time.

True; it is weird to think of a future like that. Even I thought I was using an overused trope--it seems like everyone at one point or another imagined push-button houses as the future of Earth (the Jetsons come to mind... and I never even watched that show...). But it would fit right in with Patrick's era of DW, and I could easily picture Two, at the end of it, lecturing everyone as to why they can't rely on robots to do everything. *and hugs everyone in the fic*

(No, he wasn't; what puzzled him was the fact that Sally knew he was the Doctor when, from his standpoint, he hasn't met her yet. It's a bit confusing, yes...)

LOL, I wonder if anyone has written that crossover yet...

LOL. Aww, that ending would be cute.

(Ahhh. More confusing time-travely stuff.)

Lookie what I found earlier today! http://ptahrrific.dreamwidth.org/64743.html
