Musings after a weekend

I know it may come as a shock to some of you, but I am not perfect. I know; the truth hurts.

Seriously, though, I have discovered a major flaw: my left ear is deformed. I finally got my YMCA membership (complete with hideous picture ID) and the first time my iPod and I ran on the treadmill, my left earbud kept bouncing out of my ear. It didn't ( Read more... )

For about six years I have been almost-violently opposed to earbuds on the grounds that they don't fit my ears. It was a complete mystery to me how people could wear them for more than thirty seconds without severe discomfort. I assumed that I was actually some bizarre breed of humanoid alien with seriously misshapen ears.

Then, a couple weeks ago, I needed headphones more portable than the over-the-ear model by Philips that I usually use, and in desperation I dug out my iPod earbuds, which I haven't used in two years. And after a little experimenting I found out how to hook them into my ears in a painless, stable fashion! It feels like they're going to fall out, but they don't.

I haven't tried jogging with them, though. I'm not sure that would work.

My iPod earbuds are actually the first comfortable ones I can recall wearing. Before I tried them, every other earbud type headphones were very uncomfortable.

Could it be that Apple has designed something correctly where others have failed? My world is all topsy-turvy.

Maybe my standards are too high?

Are you looking for intellect among males? Then yes, your standards are impossibly high. :-P

Seriously though, bravo for not settling for any monkeys.

I think it has something to do with the little soft rubber grips on the edge of the buds. Nice and smooth on the ol' earlobes. (Of course, that might also be contributing to the fact that the left one pops out, so maybe it isn't a good thing.)
